I'm pretty pleased with it and it seems to be fairly tight, no rattles no wiggly parts. Wood is better than I expected. I have been advised that cycling it about 1000 times will smooth it out nicely. Been raining for days (11 inches so far) so I been sitting and watching movies while working the action.

I have 3 of them. 2-44mag and 1-357. They are slick but can be made slicker with some tuning (that doesn't require 1000 cycLes of the action). All 3 of mine run real good.

Wow, nice. I have the same in Ruger .480. Hope you shoot the hell out of it. They are a bit of history built outside the US. Mine will punch a hole in your shoulder though.

Yeah, I've heard that these steel butt plates can do a number on ya. One of the services that Steve's Gunz does is to re-profile the butt end and install an actual recoil pad. After I get some rounds thru this one I will see if that modification is gonna be on my to-do list.

I had one in .44 mag. No gun had ever bruised my shoulder til that Rossi 92. I sold it when I needed money. If I had kept it, I would have installed a recoil pad! The sights on mine needed replacing, which I got from Steve's

Mine has been to Steve. I have never met him, talked to him on the phone several times. Took me almost 6 months to get my 92 done. He was ill and I had/have no problems with that at all. The action is so slick on mine, it is awesome. You know how a W94 feels. It is so much better. Have fun with it my friend. I'll send you a pic. of mine.

Just to be clear though, I didn't have a butt pad installed. I kind of like the bite of a rifle/carbine. Kind of wakes you up. I have always liked the bite of a large caliber recoil. Yep, it hurts. Oh well. I'm strange. I would not want to do it over and over but the bark when you shoot a yote/hog is awesome. JMO.

I grew up hunting with a Win. 1895 in 30-40 Krag. That gun also has a steel butplate but is also a lot heavier. We'll see how it goes....... 8)

That is certainly my choice, too. Problem is, they're almost not available at all. Don't know the whole story, but the revolver-cartridge lever action Marlin's are pretty scarce, especially the stainless ones.

So, Rossi has put themselves in a very enviable position. They are capitalizing on the market that Marlin is no longer filling.

My experience with these Rossi lever actions, is they are rougher than a cob. Hence, their bargain pricing.

So if a feller has different standards than me, and they are pleased, then I am pleased for them. And if a feller wants to spend a little time and/or money to make them nicer, then that's great too.

I'll continue to wait for a Marlin, at least for a while longer. Maybe I should have kept some of my Marlin's from my past. :lol:

Yes sir it is a might dampish. If the neighbor's gauge is correct we are a bit over 11 inches from this last session. Lakes are pretty much closed but all the creeks are getting a real good flushing out. But I will always take a flood over a drought....... because I can always find higher ground......but I can't make it rain.

You might wanna swing by your LGS and put one of the Rossi's in your hand. No they are not Winchesters or even Marlins in fit and finish. But, with just a bit of work, they will make a real nice woods gun at a decent price. Oh, and be prepared to feel a sticky action.....the factory seems to have an abundance of cosmoline or something similar.....and they ain't afraid to use it. :wink:

Mine is a .357, bought used. Must have been worked on, it is very smooth. Would like to find one gone over by stevesgunz to compare it to mine.

Having a nice single action revolver and a lever action carbine to go with it in the same caliber is bliss. IMHO.

I've got a Rossi in in .45 Colt with the full length octagon rifle barrel. Since its heavier, recoil is pretty mild even with my heavy 320 gr cast bullets. My action is pretty slick, better than my 94 carbine was. External metal is a bit rougher finished than the Winchester. The wood is surprisingly well fitted. Accuracy is top notch. These are fun guns and decent quality. I'd prefer a Marlin but we'll see if they come back and if they improve in quality. I would also buy a Winchester if they would bring back a 92. I really dont like pistol calibers in the 94 action.
