So, it's been a few years since I've been into revolvers. I had deployed, then moved to Alaska, then got married, moved back down south, changed careers, blah, blah. So, now I've got an itch for a couple of new revolvers since I can sort of afford ammo again - I'm after a 4-5/8 stainless blackhawk in 357 and I'm after a 7-1/2 bisley.

I've found a few when passing through town yesterday, but not quite what I was looking for. My actual question here is, should I really expect to pay an extra $100 if I want stainless, and has anyone ever had a bad experience using gunbroker.com?

RE: extra $100 for stainless...all depends on the model but in general, I certainly wouldn't think so. In the end it's worth what YOU are willing to pay for something depending on how bad YOU want it.

RE: Gunbroker...Nope, but only had a few transactions. Remember it's not Gunbroker you're dealing with, it's the seller so just check their feedback and proceed accordingly.

I have used gunbroker.com on two occasions and was completely satified. I prefer stainless for the durability aspect, as well it easier to buff polish out a scratch etc on a stainless. That being said a deep blued revolver with wood grips is hard to beat apperance wise.

Yeah, after stainless for the same reason. Also, I bought a Blackhawk a while back, and the bluing wasn't real great. Most was good, but the barrel crown is kind of ugly. I had ordered it, so I took it home anyway.

I used to be able to find guns a lot cheaper at a local gun shop, but with the ordering problems this year, it doesn't look like I can even get what I want.

Well I am a gun nut and have several stainless revolvers and a bunch of blued ones. I guess I prefer the blued ones. It's just whatever suits you better. I take the same care of both finishes with no problem from either. With proper care the blued will give years of service with no wear or problems the stainless is stainless all the way through so it dcan be polished to a new looking finish anytime. I like carachter in a gun so a little honest wear looks great to me.

I use gunbroker quite a bit. Only bad experience was on some grips and parts BUT I used PAYPAL and complained to them AFTER a month and no merchandise. Seller contacted me everal months later...sad story about being in hospital, etc and I did receive purchase; PAYPAL had locked up his funds until I told them everything had been resolved.

I have purchased a number of guns off gunbroker and no bad experiences. I collect/shoot Original Size VAQUEROS in 357 and 44, so I'm always looking for them. Auctionarms has been pretty good to me also. Seller named NORTHWEST ARMORY Milwaukee OR has been really good...haven't seen any of their auctions lately. Gunsamerica is OK...I guess. Sellers don't seem to be as motivated as the other two sites.

Start checking GB and AA on a daily basis looking for what you want to buy. Know values and check out shipping costs and seller's feed back. Check out the local gun shop on what they charge for a transfer fee. I think anything over $25 is un-acceptable and find somewhere else! I make sure to explain that I will buy the item from the local guy if he has it or can obtain it for me AND I'll go $25 over the cost of the gun I bought on the internet plus shipping and transfer fee. The local shop has to be within $75 BUT then I get stuck with 8% sales tax here in Missouri. You want the local guy to stay in business BUT you should get a decent deal from him...I have gotten a freebie on a transfer and some DEALS on guns in stock.
