Just contacted Ruger hoping to get an answer on this question. Is Ruger planning on releasing the SR1911 in a "Officer's model" ( 4 inch barrelled) variant for better CC? When (and if) I get a response I will share it here.....

Once they build a Commander-sized 1911 - why carry the full-size or a cut-down (Officer's) version anymore?
I'm sure marketing would require the 5" market be saturated before getting manufacturing schedules riskier with a second configuration. Prescott is hammering them out now trying to recoup the new CNC cell currently dedicated to the SR1911. When marketing justifies the second (or third) config. variant, they will happen.

On the other hand, I've no idea why they haven't partnered with Robar for a 21st-century finish by now...

Afterall, Remington now has what, seven variants of the excellent R1?

I'm a bit confused as to what you want. The Colt Officers Model has a barrel around 3.5" and a shortened butt. The Commander version has a 4.25" barrel (some clone makers shorten this to an even 4") and a full-length butt. Which size are you interested in?

A full-size 1911 style pistol really isn't all that much "harder" to carry than a Commander sized 1911 pistol.

Agreed. I have no problem ccw,ing a full size 1911 and while I have a 3.5 bbl 1911 I seldom carry it. That said, I would buy a Ruger commander sized 1911 if they made one, just cause it's a Ruger and I like em.

They are running wide open, with triple their initial 1911 production capacity, and still demand exceeds supply. Having stated all that, from the outset, they planned on more than one variant of the 1911 design.

I would love a lightweight 4.25 inch round-butt, with ambidextrous safety, please.

That is true, as I carry mine everywhere except onto Ft. Benning.. but I have several holsters designed for a Commander, and the barrel of my Government Model sticks through them.

Almost thought about buying another and cutting it down.

if you do that the next day they will start producing one just like the one you made. At least that is how my luck runs! Ed

5" may not be more difficult to carry/conceal, I just like the way a commander size (4" or 4.25") handles and balances. I find them easier for me to shoot. Of course, I like J Frame snubbies too. :D

It took me quite some time to get a 5 inch and then I picked up another. I think they are starting to get the demand filled. The most logical thing would be a Commander size, but you never know what Ruger will do. I am sure it will be interesting.

Now that the Commander version is out.

Does anyone here want an Officer's sized SR1911?

One with the 4 inch barrel like the Commander or the Dan Wesson CCO in the new
black finish of the Naval edition would be nice.

I'm sure that we would add some Nites along the way.

It would be far cheaper than a Dan Wesson or Colt, and probably
be equal in fit and finish.

I'm no 1911 expert ( I've owned a Colt C.Commander and a DW CBOB ) but I'd give up carrying
my CZ RAMI for such a gun.

With the Commander-sized SR1911 available, what would be the purpose of a smaller (or longer) version anyway?

A 10mm conversion? Yes of course. But Ruger already has several smaller defensive guns in the striker-fired line.

Do you think the commander slide would be more reliable than say a 3 inch barrel?

Some guys run Kimbers and other shorter barrel .45s with no problems, but I've
read that the new Dan Wesson ECO runs perfectly with the loads as tested by the
gun writers so far.

That said: I still like the Commander length CCOs.

.

Yes. And I think the Officers frame is easier to conceal then a full size grip.

Ruger has cost me a lot of money already this year, and if they came out with an officer size they would cost me even more, but that is not a bad thing.

I got to handle one of the Commander sized models today at my local "big box" sporting goods store. (nope, not Dick's. Won't shop there) It's probably a good thing my wife was with me. $699.00 seemed like a reasonable price and I must say, this pistol felt great, and is a real beauty to behold! I was real surprised to see that they had one in each configuration. Unfortunately I have already exceeded my Ruger Support Fund donations for a while and must wait. :(

I'm with ethang a commander slide and barrel with a officers frame. I shot Custom gun built that way and it handled very nice and much easier to conceal but a bobtail commander would also be nice
