Collectable Rugers

Just my thoughts on Collectable guns in general . I will leave the collecter grade firearms to the collecters and I will accumulate shooters .
A couple of years ago I wanted a stainless 41 mag and then saw the Stainless bisleys come out and I grabbed one , I then found out about the limited quanities and it sat in my safe unfired as a collectable .
After thinking about for a while I came to the conclusion that if I fired it the value would drop , If i hung onto to until i retire in a few years I might get $1000 dollars for it ( not going to do much for my retirment) . So then i thought about it some more and figured if its in the safe when i die the kids will sell for $300 or a set of snow tires or something , end result is I sold it for close to twice what i paid and bought a nice used 41 mag redhawk a set of reloading dies and 2 boxes of bullets and a bag of brass with enough left over for a happy meal for me and the wife . every body is happy and i am shooting a 41 mag.
I promised the kids their inheritance would be a bunch of worn out guns and a old worn out streetrod .

The term "collectable" is very, very subjective, and collectable Rugers are probably the most varied lot of guns that exist.

To some people this revolver is junk, at best just a "shooter" or a truck gun, but to me it is "collectable" because I like police and security trade-in Ruger DA revolvers and have many of them. I was ecstatic to get it for $150 but some wouldn't pay even that.

Some people go crazy for stuff like early Ruger Single Sixes, Blackhawks, Vaquero's etc. but I never got into the SA stuff. It's all subjective.

I would pay more for a 150-prefix Security or Speed Six, but some others could care less about them.http://www.hunt101.com/data/500/medium/wornsix.jpg

Stan, that's one of the nice thing about Rugers. There are many different ways to collect them, all dependent upon your individual taste and budget.

The Rugers I like are the 3-screw Flattops. They represent some of the more collectable of the Rugers, particualrly in the single action family. That being said, I won't own one I can't shoot. There are 4 in the safe right now and each one had been fired when I got it and will be fired again. Don't think I would buy an un-fired in the box version. I'll leave those for the real collectors.

I don't have "range guns" that gets fired once in a while, cleaned and put away like most people do. The stuff I use get's used perty-hard, and looks it. That being the case, I don't care to shoot an unfired or "collector grade" gun because I wouldn't want to risk messing up someone elses chance to own something that they'd appreciate more that I do. Somehow that just wouldn't seem right.

That's my solution, i.e. have "safe queens" and shooters!
