COL and 77/44

What is the longest cartridge-bullet combination to be used in the 77/44? thx Jim

PS: From what I can tell, 1.610" is the maximum.

I'm no expert but I think the limiting factor will probably be the magazine unless you want to feed the rounds one at a time. I believe you can extent the bullet until just before the bullet engages the rifling. This would be using all the freebore available.

You can check the freebore by putting a bullet loosely into a fired case and pushing it into the chamber as far as it will go and then remove the round and measure the OAL. Subtract about .020" so the finished cartridge/bullet is not touching the rifling, that will be your max OAL for that rifle. 8) 8)

I got a couple of magazines around here. I will measure the longest round that will fit in one. I guess that is what you want.

edit to add: I normally load 240gr XTP bullets to 1.60".
I was just able to load two 240gr Rainier bullets to 1.645" and have them function ok in the magazine.
Any longer and they tilt and jam in the magazine. 8) 8)
