Rooting around through some very old photos and found this. A Cobra in action.

Love the Cobra. Only saw one up close and personal and that was at Patriot Point in Charleston where the USS Yorktown is docked. Tiny little nasty, with pointy teeth monster, for the enemy that is.

3 feet wide less the stub wings. Very small frontal area, was a barn sideways, and a bad ass always!

And they’ve run out of model letters. I guess they’ll have to start over with AA.

And they’re up to the “Y” model on the Huey. Think of them as the B-52 of the helicopter world.

Look at all the unburned jet fuel...

Some of that looks like 2.75 rocket smoke. The pods look empty or almost so.

Nice. My older Brother flew Cobras for the Army, mostly in Germany on the border.....he has some hair raising stories regarding stand offs with the MI-24.

How many pilots and men for guns during flight?

Two pilots. Front seat is the gunner and co-pilot. Back seat is the pilot in command. But it's not that easy. The back seat pilot also runs the 20mm cannon and rockets from the wing stores.

Look at all the unburned jet fuel...

That is 2.75 FFAR motor smoke. If you rapidly changed the engine power setting you could get a 'puff' of black exhaust but nothing like what you see in the photo.

When I was at Ft. Hood with the 1st Cav in the early 70s there were some there then.

I recall playing hide and seek in Korea with one during a field problem. He won.

Yep, there were times that smoke trail was mighty pretty. Of course today they'd probably have to put a catalytic converter on each rocket.

Ft. Campbell Ky! 101st airborn we had our share of Cobra Gun ships when they straf a field you know it LOL. ps

When they finally retire the UH-60 they will return the crew to home station in a Huey.

I once saw a pair of F16s dogfighting with a pair of A10s up in the Chorwon valley. The F16s had the best of them there. The next day we were up on the DMZ and the A10s whipped some F16 butt flying in and out of some tight valleys.

Did you get to to jump with Hendrix? He was in there mid-60's until he broke an ankle.
