every spring I order a case of 22 lr target ammo from the Civilian Marksmanship Program. Today I got a mass email sent by Oris Michaels the cmp director that they will get a small shipment in mid May that is already sold out and will get the rest of the shipment sometime in October. Thank you chicken little for the panic buying. Obama and his comrades talk of making it harder to purchase what they call assault rifles and you throw your hands up scream the sky is falling and buy up all the 22 long rifles. Why????? By years end they will still be just talking. I'm far from out 4,500 round of 22lr and 2,000 rounds of military 30-06 for the M1 but it just irritates me that people do things like this. I read a news story this morning about a dealer that upped his prices 118% and is selling 22s so fast he will have to limit sales. Post on the lounge shows 4 100 round boxes on gunbroker going for $97.00 No need to ban it, Chicken Little has all of it so none is left for the rest of us. I'm sure this will make me unpopular with a lot of you but I just had to say it.

Fear and panic, panic and fear.

.....mixed with a fair amount of greed and gouging.

There's still plenty of ammo that can be found, and has been throughout all of this.
The problem is not that there aint no ammo to be had, the problem is that there aint no realistically-priced ammo to be had.

With this thought in mind, I suggest that everyone watch the auction sites for some of this ammo to show up. Don't be bashful about passing the info to CMP so that those people are NEVER able to order from CMP again. I don't mind someone making a quick buck but that's not what CMP is there for.

I cannot blame anyone for putting away some extra ammo after three months of daily rhetoric coming out of Washington. Ammo registration? ... It may not go through congress this time but wait until the next Sandy Hook, and there will be another mass shooting. The Antis will be louder than ever next time

The CMP is about Marksmanship, they sell ammunition specifically to raise money for their marksmanship program. They would be very happy to sell every piece of ammunition they had tomorrow.

Hi,

There's an old saying, "If you think education's expensive, try ignorance."

Some of us "got educated" in '08-'09. Some of us were slow learners, and just signed up for the class in 2013. The price of tuition's gone up a lot in those four years...

Dunno what kind of financial resources a lot of you have, but mine are far from unlimited. Nevertheless, by picking up a brick of .22s now and then, 1000 primers, a pound of powder, etc., etc. over the last four years, I've built up a reasonable inventory of ammo and components to weather a shortage of six months to a year. I think if we asked everyone here, we'd find I'm not alone. And I would predict that a lot of you who are complaining of shortages right now will follow suit so that even after things settle down, the NEXT time--and trust me, there will be one--we have more people in the same boat I am, reasonably able to carry on as usual for a while.

The last time around changed some of our buying habits, probably forever. This time will change even more people's. It would be wise to start setting aside some money in the piggy bank for when supplies start trickling into the pipeline so we all can either begin to stock up initially, or restock some, in order to "Be Prepared" better than we've had to be in the past.

Once folks get stocked up, as they did last time, things should start to even out. But there are a lot more in the market this time than just four years ago, so the shortages will take longer to work thru. Good luck in the mean time!

Some of us are not "slow learners" but may not have had a need for some types. I have a 38 that has been used (and still is) for the home with a nice 30-30 and 12 ga for deer hunting. I last purchased bulk .22LR at .038/ea. Now I have a .45 and a Colt M4 so I need these last two and finding that is tough, or at least at a decent price. I pay the LGS price for a few here and there just to practice with. I did not need CT to know about stocking up as I have plenty of whatever else I needed. As time goes forward and supply catches up, prices hopefully will come back down to earth and I'll bulk purchase what I need. Regrettably I don't have unlimited funds either.

On a brighter note, here's some price/availability-changes that I've noticed in my local area;

Name-brand, brass-cased .223-55FMJ has dropped from $1 per round, to .70 per round.
NATO-spec green-tip is down from $1.25, to .75 per round.
Walmart is getting a somewhat steady supply of Federal ammo, and their 45ACP-230FMJ is still priced at $28.95 per 100.
Coles Dist is offering European brass-cased 150Grn 30-30 for $10.95 per box of 20.
Remington and Winchester slugs and buck shot are available again. One of my boys recently got in a carton of Remington Express 12Ga-00 for .86 per round with free shipping. Walmart's price is about the same, and less for their "value packs".
My LGS now has plenty of Alliant powder on the shelves, and more cartons sitting on the floor.
My name finally came up on the waiting list of a local independent-manufacturer, for a 1000-count carton of new 9MM-115FMJ @ $230 OTD....which is cheaper than I could have reloaded it, even before the "panic".
I've noticed a lot of CCI "Brazer Brass" ammo become available of late, which seems to be driving the price of questionable steel-cased stuff back down to a price which is more in line with what it "should be".

Hopefully, this is a trend.

None of that here locally. Glad it looks better there.

Same here. Walmarts are bare. Gander gets what they can and lines are at the door before they open which makes me wonder what these folks do for work or whether they are taking days off to be a the store. Anyway, the lgs has started getting in 5.56 for around .70 and 22LR at $13+/100 that I think is rather expensive.

Not completely accurate. They have rationed their mil-surp 30-06 to ten cans per year per customer.

Oris Micheals director of the CMP has replied to several complaints of reselling CMP ammo that once someone buys it he doesn't care what they do with it. I have been to both the north and south stores and each time people were loading up Greek 30-06 by the pallet.

You aint seen nothing yet when talk turns into reality, look what is going on in NY and a few other States..................
Connecticut has been in the news lately... Bad stuff going on there... The UN has been in the news ... Obama keeps bring up gun control, Biden, Schummer, etc... too.. People react to what they see are a threat .... And our government is a big threat to our gun/ammo heritage..... Some of us saw it in 2008/2009 and then after words resolved to 'stock' up. Sure enough.... here we go again... But this time, I am still able to shoot.... Hopefully though it won't last for the whole four years....

If everyone would quit buying it the price would come down!
Everyone should take a month off shooting, and see what would happen! Do not buy anything, no guns, no ammo, no components! Prices would drop like a rock!
