CMP 1911s, $1k and up?

Still no word on prices, but recent articles say the CMP will price the guns according to rarity and condition, whatever that means on a given day...
Someone here have anything newsworthy on them or an email I have not read?

Nope, as mentioned... I'm amazed at the multiple hoops one will have to jump through to just buy one... and they are not going to start selling any until they get 10,000 'individual' orders. Somebody in their marketing department either knows what they are doing or has some grand delusion.

Once the application process is complete, names should be drawn at random so a person can be given one.

The CMP is bending over backwards to ensure the sale is fair to all. I think they've done a pretty good job. Yeah... I'd LOVE an old military M1911 but not so much to want me to jump through all the firey hoops and pay big $ to get one.

When I was in the Army one of the jobs I had was Unit Armorer , We had 65 ,1911's in the Arms Room
This was a Infantry unit , these pistols were a mix of parts and makes , Never saw a all original .
One the days after a training exercise or live fire range , we had to clean them for 3 days , To make this as quick as possible
we had 3 barrel half's with solvent , all of them would be taken apart dumped in the tanks and scrubbed moving from
tank , then from the pile of parts we would start to put together guns , grab a frame and slide and go for it .
Then when it came to swapping them out for the M-9"s we took those big metal Ammo Cans and piled them in and out to
the Depot they went , Then they were dumped out on a table for SN. check then dropped a a big crate on a forklift .
They said that they would all be checked and repaired as needed and reparkerized and put in war reserve storage or
given as foreign aid to friendlys.
Now some maybe nice if they came from a Air Force , Navy shore unit but there going to be few I'd think
As for me ,it will depend on prices and hoops , I may just buy another Les Bear .

Youbgents will not have to “compete” against me to acquire one of these. Between expense and requirements, I don’t need another 1911 that badly.

Don't forget for a minute that the CMP (a privately-owned company) is getting these guns by donation - the hardware is free. The only investment they have is handling and logistics. I'm not so sure the government does not deliver them to the CMP locations on the taxpayer dime.
As has been noted, the taxpayers already paid for the hardware.

Quite a good margin to be charging ANYTHING aside from a minimal handling fee. Reminds me of a professional sports franchise in their business model.

Of course, the CMP is a good thing. I just don't believe the near-zero processing costs justify artificial pricing to US citizens on US citizen property.

That old NFL model of "you have to buy it, to see what it is and how much it costs" (thx again Pelosi) thing has been ingrained to the point it seems, of acceptance of a pig-in-a-poke" model?

My understanding is that proceeds from the sale supports civilian marksmanship programs. That is a good thing and the purpose of the CMP.

Surely, the CMP is a good thing to have around. But the prices & profits are not donations, they are invented and set to the public.
Anyone can donate to the CMP (non-deductible) 365 days a year of course.
