SASS don't allow fast-draw, fanning, nor trick shooting anyhow, so what's the point?
Me thinks that without sights, the probability of scoring fast hits will go down....not up. On the other hand, if fast target work is the goal, and if any sort of sight modifications are in the works, you'd be better off to leave that wide front sight alone and widen the rear a tad, so's ya can look "through" it in order to find the front faster. In short, it's the front sight that tells ya where the shot is going. It's the only point of reference ya got.
Then there's the occassional "bonus shots" that you'll encounter which require precision shooting. Without some sort of sighting arrangment, what then?

CAS/SASS is a perty-tuff game and how any certain gun "looks" will not get you a single point. No use in handicaping yourself right from the get go.....but hey, it's your gun, not mine.

That's all I know about that.

Swap your Blackhawk for a Vaquero if you want to shoot Cowboy. It has the traditional notch in the topstrap and rounded front sight blade. With any luck, you can make an even-up trade.

It'll look like a Blackhawk without sights. HORRIBLE! Unless you spend serious money to get the top strap welded up and a "hog wallow" sight groove installed.

You'd be many, many Dollars ahead if you sell the Blackhawk and buy a Vaquero, or, better yet, a New Vaquero since it's WAY MORE like a real SAA.

Yep, it is pure hell hitting those targets at 5 yards.....just kidding but the only cowboy action shoot I have seen was at JCSA in Grants Pass, Or and the targets were so close you couldn't miss with a slingshot.

Boy would I ever like to see you shooting in a match.
There isn't a target made that can't be missed, when the buzzer goes off and you are trying to shoot REAL fast. Try shooting two pistols 5 rounds each, lever rifle 10 rounds, SxS shotgun 4 rounds in 20-25 sec. Oh by the way ya might have to move between each gun you shoot.
Top Shot proves that to be true. Not a CAS shooter I know of would have shot the 73 the way they did :(

Jim who knows how to miss

Forgot to ad that removing the front and rear sight on a Blackhawk is probably illegal. NO EXTERNAL MODIFICATIONS allowed. Now if you make it into a Vaquero that is fine.
Like others have said Hard to hit anything without a front sight. Been doing CAS for 10 years at a few states and a lot of matches. Never seen a gun without a front sight.

There's a big difference in seeing a match and shooting a match.
CAS is a timed event. Ya can't miss fast enough to win....and if ya shoot slow, hitting them all won't win either.

Whatever your (or my) opinion of CAS is, it don't matter much to the subject at hand.....meaning that if one is to be competitive, a front sight is a real handy thing to have.

Just sayin'.

Hob,
What other info were you expecting?
What would the gun look like if you took off the sights?
Ugly, and answered. Use your imagination.

You said you wanted to do it for CAS uses.
People advised it's an illegal modification, and that you'd need sights of some sort to compete realistically anyway.
You were also advised that it'd be cheaper to sell your BH & buy a fixed sight model than to weld up the rear sight notch area & do it correctly.

Further, I'll add that you'd need two pistols to compete, in case you're not aware of it.

If that's changing the subject, possibly the subject was either a little unclear or a little mistaken in assumption to begin with. :)
