cleaning rubber grips with wood/plastic inserts

Hi all,

What is the best way to clean the rubber factory Ruger grips with wood/plastic inserts (i.e., SP101, old GP100)?

Hogue recommends WD40 for cleaning their grips (http://www.getgrip.com/main/support/cleaning.html) but I am not sure the Ruger factory grips are made of the same material. Maybe a general-purpose cleaner (i.e., Simple Green) and a nylon brush are better suited?

I use a lot of Pro-Shot brand "Cleaning" and "Silicone" cloths. My GP and SP grips simply get wiped down with those.

I used a silicone cloth on mine. I probably used some of the spray silicone too. It had some sort of white discoloration going on. It looks new now and has for years.

Bring back wood grips!

I just received some Altamont grip panels and when I took the grips apart there was a lot of white stuff that looked like oxidation behind the wood panels and inside.

I used some diluted Simple Green and a nylon bristled brush and I'm happy with the result. All the white stuff is gone and it did not seem to have affected the surface of the rubber at all.

I use frog lube on all mine. Works great.

Since the '80s, I have popped out the wood inserts and oiled them, then ArmorAlled the rubber. (Plastic inserts - just Armor All the whole thing.)

Good old soap and water like dish soap works fine, then put on some kind of rubber and plastic preservative or oil.

I'm sure it did I don't use simple green cause I can't stand the smell of the stuff.
