I just picked up my SP101 (.357). The owner's manual gives directions for the disasembly of the trigger and hammer.

When would I want to disasamble the revolver? Is this necessary?

I've had S & W revolvers years ago and I don't recall having to remove the side plate at any time.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

No Sir no need to "disassemble".......soak, brush, and swab, wipe down and keep oiled....and practice, practice , practice

enjoy, the more you shoot it the smoother and better it will get.......

As a rule no need to disassemble. Some folks just think that's something they need/want to do. In practice, just follow the instructions in the manual. You'll probably be fine.

Depends on how smoothly and reliably you want your weapon to run. I would say to follow the cleaning instructions in the manual every 1K rounds or so.
That's the beauty of a Ruger over S&W, they're designed for the layman to be able to maintain his own weapon instead of having to take it to a gunsmith.

While I prefer S&W for certain reasons, including a fine SA/DA trigger system I have grown to appreciate, the Ruger trigger group is far easier to dismount and clean compared to the S&W design.

With a little practice (and a few mistakes) you will develop a proficiency in cleaning your Ruger without worry.
