My 90 year old father recently passed away and I'm taking care of his estate so I'm receiving his mail right now. This showed up today...

So, apparently he's won $2,000,000, payable over 30 years at $66,666.66 per year, (or $1,327.940.00 lump sum) and all he has to do to collect is mail them $11.89 (or $14.89 for "rush processing") and they'll send the money. Of course if your read through it you see things ;like "No purchase necessary, Purchase will not increase change of winning"

Sounds like a good way to cheat the elderly out of a few bucks and, if you are successful enough times, get quite a bit of money.

Bass-Tares like this should be shot.

Simple . . . . . Send a note with instructions for them to withdraw the
required amount from the first payment. If they fail to comply with your
instructions the IRS will be in touch with them in the next week and
withhold the payment from their wages.

If they fail to comply with IRS instructions then the entire amount will be
subtracted from their wages, each week that it takes to fulfill their
complete obligation. Then remind them that WE . . DO . . have debtors
prison if they are not able to fulfill their obligation.

Hey, that "Only $14.89" is a bargain! A sorta little ol' lady I know got taken in one of those scams. Only they told her she had to pay the taxes first, in cash, to get her $3mil or whatever it was. Her retirement account of approx. $100k is now empty...

RH, for giggles if you have the time before tossing that thing straight in the trash, you might want to talk to the Postal Inspectors since that "Mail reply only" thing was mentioned. I'n sure they've already seen it plenty of times but it would be interesting to know what they say about it. At one time, they were pretty hard on mail fraud--dunno about now. I do know the people who got "my" little ol' lady were very careful to make sure the PO was NOT involved in any of the transactions: fax, UPS, wire, yes, but no mail. Last I heard the FBI was interested in her case, though not encouraging. I think they were alerted by IRS after I helped her write 'em a letter about how she didn't want to pay taxes on that big 1099 the withdrawal triggered.

There are people who should be hung from lamp posts. Immediately. :twisted:

Actually, it doesn't say he won. In the fine print it says he will win only if his entry matches the winning number, but I agree it is very deceptive. When you first look at it, it sure looks like you have a winner. there oughta be a law to stop this kind of B.S.
