I would like a lower hammer on my New Vaquero and .44 Special Flattops. Am I limited to the Montado hammer or could I use the Super Blackhawk hammer.

It must be too early in the morning for me or maybe it is caffeine deficiency, but this whole subject of Ruger hammers has gotten me confused. I appreciate the help.

I BELIEVE (but I haven't messed with it in so long... notice the last reply) that you can do exactly that: put the SBH hammer on AT LEAST the .44 Special. In fact, that is exactly how I have my small-frame .44 Special (pre- the production run... a Clements Custom on the New Model Flat-Top). I haven't had any trouble with it. It MIGHT be conceivable that, because of a little deeper step on the factory, the transfer bar could end up being a problem since it is going to be pinched between the hammer and frame. BUT, not sure. Don't know enough about THAT. I don't worry about it. If it is ever a problem, I'll probably just work a new transfer bar into it.
