Has anybody tried the new shotshell from CCI with #4 shot. Man, that would have to be effective at short pistol ranges on varmints and such.

Does anyone know if pistol caliber shot shells gum up the rifling?

Thanks.

I watched this earlier today. It's a review of those rounds. I think it looks interesting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YxphDh9ydII Sorry, I can't say about the rifling, but you might message Plinkster and ask if he has any input.

Very interesting video, thanks for the link.

I tried using #4 in a little 410 (2.5") with an "open choke" for rabbits and such. Fifteen yards was about the limit. Pretty worthless IMHO. Can't imagine similar loads from a 3" rifled barrel would be better.

I don't get CCI's change of heart. I remember reading that CCI said that they used the size shot that gave the densest patterns, and it wasn't #4. I still wouldn't go after a skunk or rabid coon with this new shot!

I wish I had that smooth bore Winchester .22 I used to have access to in the 70's. That sucker was deadly on birds and such out to about 30+'. If it were legal, I'd have a smooth bore handgun.
