Dunno if the phase of the moon plays into this or not. They use bigger weights on the truck than on the VW. That's why they hit harder!

In times past big rig weights had more antimony in em to keep em from bending & hold on to the clip better, but hitting harder ??? I doubt it , but they were probably pushed harder/faster though.

One thing I can say is wheel weights I bought in the early 1970's for ten cents a pound had a much higher level of tin and antimony in their composition. I bought a bit over 250 pounds as I recall and they cast a harder bullet than what current lead type wheel weights do today. The last batch I smelted had a BHN level of 10 to 11 while 1970's weights I still have left cast 12 to 13 on the BHN scale. I use those very sparingly along with my supply of linotype. Guy gave me about 60 pounds of "cleaned" wheel weights and they must have been the skinny stick on type for mag wheels because they're soft at a BHN level 8.
AFAIK, the composition of truck wheel weights and VW weights is basically the same. Tin and antimony probably differ very slightly depending on which company made them. Probably minute fractions of a percent at most.

All in good humor but I would never do it. Just think how many wheel weights are setting in an average Wall Mart parking lot???
A friend got started casting with WW`s he bought from a U-pull-it wrecking yard,removed from cars, along with the ones they had in a bucket. :wink:
