Well, I'm having a 6.5 in barrel cut to 4 5/8 and am thinking of having
the frame case colored at the same time. What do you guys think? I have always liked the look of the case colored frame.

Having it all done at one time sounds like the best way to go. Is your gunsmith in the West Valley?

+100 to blackhawk's recommendation .
Turnbull's process comes out looking really good without heat damaging the frame .They restore Old L.C.Smith shotguns and antique revolvers .I'm gonna have them do my SBH frame /loading gate .I'm also gonna have the trigger guard rounded off and have my initials engraved in the back strap and have the grip frame plated in sterling silver ,grips by caryc, install a rough country v-notch rear sight , Machine off the front sight blade down to the base and dovetail it and install a 10/22 type front fight w/ a brass bead ,and last but not least have the bbl. E.R. housing and cylinder highly polished and re blued in a deep rich bluing .Add a trigger job ,jewel the flat sides of the trigger and hammer and the guns already been Mag-Na-Ported .
Then I'll have the gun of my dreams .Gonna cost me a pretty penny ,but it's worth it .

Tim at acoatings(75th Ave & Cactus) will be doing the barrel, don't know if he does CC. I'll check with him later this week. Any recommendatings in the west valley?

Not everyone can do Rugers as nice as Turnbulls. They require a little different process to get the look he does. The top photo has had the clear coat removed and the bottom photos still have the clear coat on them. I dont care for the clear coat because it can get scratched so easy.

All those guns are just beautiful as well as being finely tuned instruments. Damm they look nice. Thanks for sharing.

Doug Turnbull's the guy for authentic CCH as recommended by BlkHawk73 ...... cruzerlou ...... and rep1954. His package for Bone Color Case Hardening includes the cylinder frame, loading gate and hammer, and with or without the clear coat. I have both, and like rep1954 also prefer CCH w/o clear coat. My USFA has Turnbull's CCH with the standard clear coating. Most quality oriented gunsmith's send it off to Turnbull for CCH in any case.

One other thing ,I've spoken with Doug several times and he guarantees his process will not hurt your gun and with proper care [ a coat of oil now and then]the CCH will last a lifetime .It's only $150.00 bucks if you send him just the frame and gate and they have been polished for refinishing . ,If he has to tear down your gun , or do prep work of course he charges you for it .Heres his web address ,He has a price list there . www.turnbullmfg.com .I've seen guns done by others and they look like crap and at the worst the frame is ruined due to heat damage .His work is well worth the cost .

Well,
Alan Harton in Houston also does CH now. Robb Barnes of the Forum had Alan do some of his. I have seen in person some that Alan has done and they are equal to Turnbull.
Alan sent all six of these to Turnbull before he did his own CH. They do not have the clear coat on them.

This is what they look like when you use them. These two have faded in the last 6 years of use.

No recomendations for the West Valley, was hoping you had some ideas. I talked with Tim a year or two ago about refinishing some grip frames but never got around to having them done.

For a pic of four with case color frames by Turnbull and Bowen Classic Arms, see my post "Great Guns" on April 16.

Turnbull's posted price is about $350 or so plus shipping and possible other things. They are great but there are others out there doing some pretty nice work for a lot less money.

Classic restorations in Illinois has done some pretty nice work on rifles I have seen and he is a lot more reasonable.

Look around and keep asking for recommendations from here and other forums.

Man y'all have some great lookin CCH Rugers there If mine looks that good [I'm sure it will] I'll be a happy camper .I'm not gonna have mine clear coated ether ,I want the CCHed frame & loading gate and Sterling Silver grip frame to get that natural patina that comes with age .

cruzerlou,
I emailed and asked them about it - I inquired about getting it ready to go before shipping it off and such to save a little and I was still told the $350. That was maybe two years ago - maybe I will try again and see if they have a new tune and see what they can offer.
