You need to grow up a little. Sometimes one needs to think about what his enemies can do before charging blindly ahead. In other words, is it worth the fight? Is it worth the cost of a lawyer and jail time to get back a $200 gun?

By the time the goons came to take your gun, it was already too late. Though you rolled over for them, even without a warrant. You even went so far as to draw them a map to your door. You complied with the tyranny of California registration. A tyranny many in other states have resisted.

My point is that people in California, and elsewhere, have empowered their own oppressors.
Money is what drives legislation. Money is what allows liberals to control the narrative that's destroying our country. Money is why the legislation that mandated your registration of your Thompson was passed. And it's been going on for decades. BTW, it's far more valuable than 200 dollars.

I have a huge problem with you old farts that have given up on the fight for Liberty, because you are "old, and glad your time is short". Do you even care about what kind of country you are leaving to future generations?!? Or is your damn TV programming so important to you that you are willing to forget the sacrifices of so many good men that have died to give you the Freedom to be so cavalier?

Oh, man, I absolutely love books. When I was in jr. high school we were supposed to keep track of how many non school books we read in a year. No one in my class (all the 7th graders) was even close. My mom used to be a regular at the Bookmobile (remember those) and they got to where they would stock up with books for me. I still read a lot. I'd guess pretty close to a book a week. Most are bullsheit ficton, but I still like to read. What pi$$e$ me off about today's news is a lot of them assume you want to watch a video. I would rather read the story.

Sorry for the long post, but reading is really important to me.

My mom was the town librarian. I got first shot at all of the new acquisitions. Never had an overdue fine until I was in college. They let me off when I told them mom was a librarian. ;) :D

Both offer the chance to be educated, or fooled, by someone else. Most people see reading as more worthwhile than sitting passively and watching a screen, and I used to as well. But now I see both activities as essentially the same. Sometimes I feel like reading, but more often I click on the big screen TV and I don't feel the least bit guilty about my choices.

People who try and shut themselves up in a world that they create for themselves is devoid of reality and they learn little to nothing of what is actually going on in the world and how it is and will affect them. You may not agree with everything that the other side believes in or has knowledge about but you can learn why they think the way they do and in some cases even discover that you are not always right in your own views. It's called furthering your education by using critical thinking.

Who said anything about trying to shut myself up in some little world of my own? I sure didn't.

Part of it with me is we never had a TV, so we read. There is a profound difference between reading and watching TV or movies. When you read, you are using your brain to envision the experiences you are reading about. When you watch TV your mind is on hold while you watch someone else's vision of what is happening.

My parents never had a TV. To this day, while my wife watches TV, I can sit in the same room and lose myself in a book. If I try to watch TV while she is reading, it is a no go. After 42 years with me, she reads a LOT more than she did when we got married.

Lol, If you really think that books are no different from Television than you will really have missed out on life/knowledge. A tremendous loss to your education. Science, Biology, History, Psychology,Economics. and even Politics, War's etc. America has become dumbed down because people have become to lazy to seek out the truth and books are the primary source to the center of learning. You mentioned AIPAC in another thread. Read just one book on AIPAC and then tell me that it is just a lobby group. . I challenge you on this. And there are hundreds on books on that subject to choose from.

Check out books on Deep State, the Iraq War,the Civil War, The Revolutionary War and on and on. . Yes, there are some great documentaries out there, but they are just a supplement to learning.
I could go on for pages about the importance of reading. Start with just a book like Moby Dick for example. And then tell me a movie is the same thing. What you miss out on cannot be measured. There is a reason why, Middle School, High School and higher education have "REQUIRED" reading.

My Father was perhaps the most avid reader I have ever met. Sometimes it seemed like you would never see him when he was not reading. I have a picture of him as a Marine in Viet Nam while stationed at Khe Sanh . And it must have been when he had some spare time, because there he is "Reading a book". He read everything, but he loved Zane Grey Westerns. We spent our life in the woods, hunting camping etc. I remember he packed us up and we went to the Tonto Rim area and we hiked to a small Old, Cabin under the Rim and near Tonto Creek. Turns out it was where Zane Grey had written so many of his books. Yep, that was my Dad.

I read about 1000 wpm and went through all my text books in the first week or so of class in high school and college. Some teachers just DIDN'T understand even while I was making "A's" in class reading something else. Also my Dad taught me math before I was out of diapers.

Neither one. The toilet paper goes on top of the basin and then you have the roll on the holder and a half used one propped on top of the dispenser. Doesn't everybody do it that way, or is it just me? :)

The roll in use sits on top of the hamper. There is a full one in the holder on the wall just in case. The wall one is just too much trouble.

I am a huge proponent of starting children off early with reading. It opens up a new world for them to learn. I can remember how as a child I love the library. And can look back at a few books that were so meaningful. One I will never forget is "Smokey the Cowhorse". Man I cried like a baby over that book and that horse. Mark Twain, Jules Verne and on and on. You can watch a movie and see a tree and you just see a tree. A book will describe the tree. Books open up the mind.

I am the one at work who gets the supplies from central stores. That makes me the "Oil King", "Paper King" and also "Water King" ... I always make sure things are done properly and maintain a good logbook. That prevents a lot of problems and makes everyone's job easier.

Don't like those things, never have. First one has to pull out the amount that you want and then you have to fold it up to get the thickness you want. Just too complicated.

Heinlein was a socialist. I started with Sci-Fi. I am not a Stephen King fan but you should definitely read 11/22/63 (that is the title).

I still read 200 books a year, well mixed history, westerns, crime, etc. AND I watch TV. THE JOURNAL OF DAVID Q LITTLE is a must read; MONTE WALSH which was written by Jack Schafer who is the same dude who wrote SHANE. I love both film versions altho I slightly favor the Lee Marvin one BUT the book is the best and not sanitized like the films. Just saw a great western on Netflix BONE TOMAHAWK. By far one of the best crime authors ever was Patricia Highsmith (STRANGERS ON A TRAIN, THE TALENTED MR RIPLEY) who wrote a ton of great short stories. There are 5 Ripley books bye-the-bye.

I hate "supporting" the enemy but, unless you are planning to live in a cave and never interact with another human again then you will miss some great stuff along the way.
I come pretty close: I live on 18 acres far enough in the woods that I cannot be seen from the road; dead end driveway with lots of keep away signs so I get to be snarly with strangers in my yard. I only leave once a month for my check-up (just cleared of cancer x 4 this summer). I love ALL those who helped me thru this period; some lefties, some pretty gnarly. Generally speaking I simply avoid politics while I was/am there every week and get them to talk. One group of 4 have their own book club, for example, and that inspired me to bring them books every visit (perhaps a subtle attempt at conversion). One has a son in the Paris Olympics so I'm watching that (parts of it) for the first time in decades. You just never know who you are talking too unless you ask.

I too would love to live "back in the day".... except it never really existed. Same people as today without the great medicine. Jake Spoon, for example.... they have always been among us.

I will agree that Monte Walsh is a great book. Both movie adaptations were good. The stinky cook and his revenge was hilarious! The Joe Biden waltz to the outhouse was funny in both movie versions. Chet Rollins wasn't killed in the book like the movies. Monte ended up dying in the book.
I watched another great movie this morning... Lonely are the Brave is one of the best modern West Westerns of all time. J. W. Coop is another.
