In the AZ oven (Phoenix basin)
I can not speak for any other stores, but the Thornton store on CO is
beginning to look "thread bare". The gun shelves that normally are full
are (as of this afternoon) HALF empty. In fact they are empty enough
that they have filled sections with other boxed product.

Add that to the decided lack of sales people (I left after twenty minutes
wait, while they handled ONE customer, and called for the next number
(mine was ten later) and their prospects seem quite dim.

A week ago that was NOT the case, but in just that one week, disaster.

Anyone else been to one in the last few days?

Hi,

We have one Bass Pro Shop in SoCal, but no Cabela's. Can't say what you saw couldn't be seen coming even without my glasses. Too many of these merger/acquisition things remind me of an 18 yr old kid who just got a high limit credit card. Thrilled with his new "spending power," he goes and maxes the thing out in no time (in other words, he buys out his competitor.}

Then comes the bill... and before you know it, two formerly well-performing companies have become one poorly performing one. And sometimes none at all. Not a surprise...

What should we expect from the merger of two companies selling overpriced merchandise? Neither store is near me, and I certainly don't shop online from them. I did pick up two pair of Cabelas' shorts for $3.49 each---at the Goodwill thrift shop. One like new, one still had the tags.

Is Gander Mountain out of business now? I seen a bunch of going out of business ads and was just wondering if it was local or nationwide.

I think it's a nationwide thing. The one in the St. Louis MO area is nearing it's end now. That's where I picked up a Remington 870 12 gauge synthetic new-in-box for $200.00.

As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change.
I think Cabela's just plain got too big for themselves. I used to buy a lot of stuff from their catalog, stuff you just couldn't find in a generic department/sporting goods store. I was excited to have a Cabela's near me. I've made lots of visits to there, but I seldom make purchases. For as huge as these places are, they still just never seem to have what I'm looking for, nor do most of the employees have any knowledge of what I'm looking for. The customer service is really quite pathetic.

I don't want them to fail. I wish they could get it together, and become the store I always hoped they would be.

Our GM in Paducah closed a few days ago, suppose to reopen early November as Gander Outdoors.

I have Cabela's and Bass Pro right close to me.......never cared for Bass Pro....

GM was bought by Camping World and will close half their stores. The remaining stores will become a combination of the two.
We have GM and Cabelas and Bass Pro here. The Cabelas is in an almost dead mall which is only about 10-15 years old. The Bass Pro is only about 5 miles from it so I think the Cabelas will close.
That will be the end of the mall, too.

Been in the Allen TX Cabelas a couple of time over the last 6 weeks or so, all seems normal, fully stocked over priced gun racks, everything else normal. Do not buy much from them though, only when they have good sales, or if I need something NOW and cannot wait for mail order.

America these days turns a blind eye to monopoly laws.

case in point....look at amazon.

seems this generation of businessmen(boys) are aiming the country towards the govt. store concept. one place to shop. one price. choices are not authorized.
any Russian immigrants recognize that?
heck...any military PX shopper would as well. its their way or the highway.
and most do..... out the gate to walmart.

In the OP I said "A week ago that was NOT the case, but in just that one

I totally agree with your thoughts...I used to order from the Cabela's catalog a lot long with L.L. Bean, then Bean became the yuppie store and prices soared and hunting and outdoor offerings shrunk...I was so excited to get a Cabela's store close enough to drive to...but the store never lived up to my expectations and they never had what I wanted...I stopped making the trip 3-4 years ago...I am not and have never been a fan of Bass Pro so my expectations of the merger is zero.

Sad really...

We have a bass pro near... have a card to get points, but grew to hate shopping there and got a cabelas card.

We now have cabelas about 2 hours away. Yes still expensive for most items, but i save points and buy a gun once i accumulate some gift cards and points and dont have to spend much...

Now their bargain cave is a different story.... i have purchased A LOT of stuff thru the bargain cave, not as much in the last few years but i still check it periodically online... from shooting/gun supplies to clothing, knives to boots, etc... prices can be a steal in bargain cave if caught in time.

The in store bargain cave here sucks though.
