Sitting on my front porch about noon reading a novel and suddenly I was "buzzed" by a turkey buzzard. It came out of nowhere, zoomed down the roof-line, and came close enough to me to move my hat.  I know I am old but didn't think I looked like carrion YET. It continued on two doors down the street and dropped out of sight. I have had mocking birds attack, I have a bluejays that hollers at me if I am sitting too near their favorite feeder, but this is a first.

Have 3 that hang around this area have had them sit on fence up the hill.really neat watching them on the air currents.

A few years ago wife and I were driving on a back road here in Utah, saw a eagle flying low alongside of us, swoop down and pick up a probable rattlesnake. It gained altitude of a 100 feet or so, dropped the snake on some rocks to kill it, swooped down again, picked it up and flew off. That was something to see! Wish I had a video of it.

The only time I ever gagged was when I had to go into a friends house that was missing. His wife had left a freezer door ajar in a spare room and it burned the motor out. It was full of rotted meat. I have a strong stomach but it instantly gave me the dry heaves. Another friend came over and put coffee grounds in the air cooler. That helped us handle the problem.

If it makes you feel any better, turkey vultures also catch live prey.

I was thinking this. We have Turkey vultures & black vultures around here. My oldest sister swears if her dogs (little dachsunds are out in the yard they hang around like they are after the dogs. I didn't tell her but her house would be much more peaceful if one did. Her dogs are annoying yappers that bark everytime anyone or anything moves.

so what happened to your missing friend? :?:

That was a shortcut story. It`s a lot longer. My best friend lived next door to me. We both had the same job, security. His wife had addison`s disease. The wrong dose of medicine would make her "unrealistic". My friend was on a trip "out of town" for our job. She told me she "might" go on a trip herself but wasn't sure, but if she did would I feed their dogs? She stressed she would get ahold of me and tell me if she made up her mind to go. A week or more passed and I seen no activity. I had a key and went in. I got instantly sick. She had fed the dogs on paper plates for around a month and hadn't picked one off the floor! You couldn't take a step without stepping on one. Checked the bedrooms to see if she had died. Got overpowered on the one where they kept their freezer. I got ahold of my buddy. He was trying to get ahold of me. Against policy she had went by him and was off her rocker. They had to fly her back and she was in the mental part of the hospital a few months. That wasn't the only time, similar happened several more times. My buddy passed a number of years ago.
