How much should I offer to pay for wheelweights from an individual? Up in Spokane, 1.5 hours away, a recycling center is buying them for $.25 to $.27 per pound. I offered a guy $.30/pound for his... Does this sound "fair" to you?

Sounds about right. I normally offer $20 for a 5 gallon bucket. Usually explain about all the unwanted zinc and iron weights plus all the assorted trash one normally finds tossed into the bucket.

Have paid higher quite a few times. Bottom line pay what you think is a fair price for them. Get them while you can because the might be a thing of the past in the next few years.

You can never have enough!

Hi,

I find a lot of wheelweights on the side of the road while out riding my bicycle. Ever since CA outlawed the lead ones, the percentage of lead's been going down quickly, to the point probably at least 50% of what I see now are zinc.

Been trying to figure out what good they were. Then I found this at Rotometals, where I buy my "good" casting alloy: http://www.rotometals.com/product-p/zinc_cannon_ball.htm

Not advocating anything, just sharing that SOMEONE has found yet another use for zinc!
