When I started loading for .44's, back around '80, I liked several offerings from National Bullet which was nearly on my way to work. I liked their "Copper-Clad" in 240 and 265grs, and a 275gr plain lead TC.. I also sorely miss the Speer 225gr HP, with the "cup" kinda jacket, and exposed lead nose. These last were great in the 44 spec's.. I still have a few 100 of the 265 gr copper-clad SWC's and the 275gr TC's in the basement. I also miss a 210gr JHP/HB from Winchester. The HB No doubt added an extra step to manufactering that was cut for costs. But it did make the 210gr bullet as long as others 240gr bullets. Good for flite at distance. What discontinued or just plain gone, bullets do you miss ? stevemb

In the mid-60's I was shooting a lot of fifty-foot bullseye, and the best bullets I found for that were 148-gr Markell .38 wadcutters. They had a kinda messy black lube, but over appropriate doses of Unique or B'eye, they were superbly accurate. Still have a couple of boxes I'm saving for some "special occasion" although I don't know what that might be.

I noticed the mention of 'copper-clad' bullets.
Were these like the 'copper-washed' 22's that CCI and others have now? I have wondered why there aren't any 'copper-washed' larger caliber bullets. Seems to me that a 'copper-washed' bullet would be an improvement over plain lead.

And now, the bullets I really miss: All of them!
Back in the '80s and early '90s there was a local guy casting bullets in his basement, only about 15 minutes from me. Very reasonable prices and I could drive up there and save all shipping costs. I'll never shoot that cheaply again.

Jimbo357mag,yes, these were called,just ran down the basement to read outside of last box, "Copper-ized Bullets" was a wash, or dip.Not a jacket. Seemed to be enough, never had leading even when they sat on 22grs of 2400. They have a quite nice look, unique, ya know ? They offered most of their great selection of bullets, either copper or plain. Wish someone would pick up the process. It looks just like the coating on .22LR loadings. National Bullet got all or some of their loading equipment from Atwells, an old family run place that is now geared to LE, fire and EMT, but still does good sales in firearms and has an indoor range in back. So National Bullet started out with used equipment, then the lead, copper, brass prices hurt them when the building boom in china hurt us all. They chose not to upgrade, just go outta business. stevemb
