Bug-out gun??

No, I bought it directly from Chaszel. They make inserts of various calibers to fit both 12 and 20-gauge shotguns. Here are several in different calibers. 9mm, .357 Magnum, 45ACP and 30-30. I also have a 12 gauge cut down with Chaszel adapters. The other truck gun I forgot to mention is a Henry AR7 with several spare magazines. My truck is equipped with tools and gear for any occasion either good or bad. I have 5 mounted toolboxes and a hand carry toolbox at all times with me. The bug-out items are in the locked boxes in the cab of my truck. The truck is always locked and in a well lit area under camera surveillance both at home and work.

Looks like they're out of business or something. The page is there but nothing available. I would buy a pair of the 45/70 for an over and under I have that doesn't fit me for crap as a shotgun but makes a decent slug gun. I could turn it into a real Double rifle!!!

Chaszel is still in business but they sell out quickly when they make a run of any of their adapters. Put yourself on the notification list and they will let you know when they have the item you want in stock. They have 12 gauge/ .44 Magnum adapters in stock now if you look at their online store.

If you can survive the first 6 months or so, for the sake of argument, after most people have killed each other off or died of disease and starvation, you will be golden. Then you only will have to worry about food, fresh water, health issues, parasites, injuries requiring first aid, medications, fuel, heat, transportation, clothing, books, and the multitude of things I obviously haven't though of. At that point, there will be a plethora of weapons lying around to choose from.

Luckily, their are now MILLIONS of people who have thought of all of those things and more. Plenty of info out there. It's the waiting that will get taken out. If you want to make plans and start putting things together now ( or 10 years ago ) is the time. Remember the ant and the grasshopper?

And all of those more aggressive folk who think they will survive as a post-SHTF- parasite taking what they want because of their armament? That is the very FIRST thing these millions prepare for. Good luck with that...

WTF did they need to add DOG??? We called them German Shepherds for decades and everyone knew what we were talking about.

The association of German shepards probably filed suit for being defamed by being referred to as canines. No idea when this started. I think it's pretty stupid as well. Or maybe the kids today need a better description for never having see one.

Bug out gun…depends on what I have at the time, as well as how much ammo and magazines. Rifle is AR, lots of rounds and magazines. Pistol is either a Glock 17 or Sig P226 MK25..both in 9mm. Long range..Remington 700P, .308. No shotgun.

I‘d hunker down and wait it out until craziness dissipates. Or I need to go no for my kids and grandsons.

Next month I’ll be 81. Spinal arthritis means I don’t have the stamina to carry a pack for long. So, I am not bugging out. I’ll be fighting in. That fits my Marine mentality — we don’t like to retreat.

My question is WHY am I 'bugging out'? Insurrection, weather situation ( fire, flood, wind). The situation would help me make a decision. Am I protecting myself from rowdy others or am I looking to eat and survive?

If you say just "German Shepherd," you could be referring to some guy named Helmut who tends sheep.
As I recall, the German name is Schaffhund which means "Sheep dog" So maybe they should be called German Sheepdogs like we have English Sheepdogs.

Of course since the AKC has pretty much destroyed the breed which is probably the reason for the change. That and everyone getting Belgian Malnois now because the AKC hasn't wrecked them yet.

Interesting thread, and some great Ideas (think I'd take a Mastiff or a Malinois over a GSD ;- )-) But really if you need to bug out in a hurry, an AR-15 and a gunny sack of loaded mags would be quick to grab and go.

The AKC has corrupted the German Shepherd Dog for their own show preferences, but not all GSDs are American line dogs. German line dogs, like mine, are built very differently and bred to constantly improve on the breed.

While my dogs are registered by the AKC (necessary, due to being the only registering authority in America) they are German line dogs, bred to German standards and also registered with the SV, which is the German registering authority, and much more stringent in their standards. Most American GSDs are not. Sadly.

I won't be bugging out, I consider my bug out gun to be a "get home" gun, carried in my vehicle for that purpose.
That makes the choices easier, depending on how far away I'm travelling and returning home. Besides the EDC, a pistol caliber carbine like the Sub 2000 is likely enough for trips under 500 miles, or an AR platform rifle for longer trips. It also depends on which vehicle, and how easy it will be to conceal. You will want to be able to access it fast if needed. A few extra loaded mags should be sufficient.

Since I always have a centerfire on me, in a BOB I would opt for a .22... For light and handy, a Glock 44, extra magazine and two 100 rounds boxes of ammo will get one through... Another would be a KelTec PMR30 .22 Magnum...very lightweight and with two extra mags of ammo and an extra 50 round box probably doesn't weigh much more than an empty 1911...
