Broken SP101

After shooting 100 rounds through my SP101 today I noticed that my cylinder will not fully lock into place. The cylinder won't budge if I try to rotate the cylinder counter clockwise aka left, but without needing a lot of pressure, but some, the cylinder will easily rotate clockwise aka to the right without pulling the trigger, just by manipulating the cylinder. This is an obvious problem in terms of lock up and I should not shoot this gun again until it is in working order.

Is this something that I could possibly resolve on my own?

Or does my SP101 have to be sent back to Ruger?

You may have some dirt or grime under the 'ejector star'. If it came about after your shooting session I'd think it's caused by grit some where binding you up. I don't think it's anything major.

I just finished cleaning it and paid special attention to the ejector star. The cylinder will still turn to the right without much pressure when it should be locking up tight.

Any more help or advice would be appreciated.

- Let me ask you a few questions to make sure I understand what's happening. Are you saying that when the gun is fully closed with the cylinder in place, you can turn the cylinder with finger pressure, but only clockwise (if looking at the back of the gun), without touching the trigger OR the hammer in any way? And can you just continue to turn the cylinder clockwise without the bolt/cylinder stop clicking into the cylinder stop notches in the cylinder? If that's what is happening then yes, you have a problem of some sort, perhaps with the bolt/cylinder stop assembly. But if it's happening while you're putting any pressure on the hammer or trigger, OR if you mean you can turn it a bit before the bolt/cylinder stop locks into the next stop notch on the cylinder, then it may not be an issue.

Yes, without touching the trigger I can rotate the cylinder clockwise. I can spin it from notch to notch. It won't turn left aka counterclockwise, just right. If I cock the hammer and leave it cocked the cylinder locks into place and will not turn right or left (like its supposed to).

Any ideas from that?
