The other day while shooting at the range I had a couple of shells that didn't eject. I had to pick them out of the action and put them aside. Right after that I noticed a small spring on the shooting table right below my rifle. Hmmmmm 2 + 2, I think I know what went wrong, the ejector, ejected itself from the gun. I looked on the concrete several times for more parts and sure enough there was half and ejector. I put the parts in a little plastic cover to bring home. The gun still worked it just didn't eject the empties after the extractor pulled them out.

I find out after doing some research on the net that 357mag Win model 1894 AE are susceptible to this failure and that the part is hard to find as they are 'obsolete' even though my gun is only about 10 years old. I did find and order the part (hope it's the right one) from Numrich.

Here is a little info I got off a shooting forum with a good picture of the part/s and some advise on how to do it yourself if the part isn't available, by silver soldering a drill bit or nail into the ejector if necessary. I'll keep you posted how it goes.

btw those videos on YouTube sure make it easy to learn how to take the Winchester 94 apart. I was a little hesitant at first but am completely confident I can do the repair myself now. :D

I can take anything apart, including the space shuttle, without a stinkin' manual. It's putting it back together that causes me concern

The Winchester is a piece of cake compared to a new model Blackhawk.

Here is the new ejector I got from Numrich installed in the bolt. It was slightly different and less polished than the original but I think it will work. I'll find out for sure on Saturday when I go shooting again.

This is the broken part I'm going to fix for a spare, just in case it happens again.

I was shooting the Winchester today and although the new ejector worked, it didn't seem to work as well as the old one did. The new ejector didn't throw the shells as far as the old one and about 1 in 5 fell back into the receiver. I guess I can live with that for a while because I just shoot targets but I might have to try the old one again after I get the parts silver soldered/brazed together and see if I can't get it to work a little better than it is now. :D

Is the drill bit soldered into the slot to hold the spring in place? How far does it protrude past the ejector once finished? On the Winchesters of that era the small nub on the lifter carrier that stops the next cartridge from coming into the action is a weak point also.I have a friend with a 44 Mag that been looking for a replacement carrier for several years. A carrier from an older style could be made to work but everything doesn't line up properly without some remachining of some holes and other details.

The ejector with the bit silver soldered into it should be a little over 1-1/4" long. See the mark on my ruler. The bit that the spring rides on sticks out about 1/2". see top photo. I failed to repair mine so I think I'm going to buy another one from Numrich. I also found these parts sites useful. There is something called a 'cartridge block' that screws onto the carrier, to stop the shells. Mine has one in .357mag. I also found out that each caliber has different parts.
