Brass grip frame question

Could be a brass grip frame. Will not accept the safety lock but is for a NM. Can't be a Ruger produced item unless it's just been introduced, they haven't made any for NMs. Someone please correct me if I'm misinformed about that. It's a dragoon style for a SBH but will fit any NM single action except Bearcat.

Ok, I know it's material, condition, and design but wasn't sure about it's origin. It's the oval in the bottom webbing that confused me. had seen the ones marked "SG" as in flatgates pic. Have a Ruger made one but not one like this. Value?

There was one of those grip frames in the box of parts I snagged out of TX a month or so ago. I "believe" I heard the manufacturer name of Caravelle batted around when I asked about it.

I have them with the "SG" and like OP pictured with the oval only/ no letters.
Caravel has been the only MFG that has been identified as a NM Brass Grip Frame MFG. I havn't heard of any other MFG names kicked around.
Suttle differences does make me think they come from different Manufactures, OR maybe small amounts made by hmmmm who really knows,
I sure don't know and havn't been able to document any of it.

As to Current Value, I don't know of anybody that is currently making Brass Grip Frames and have heard that PC has stoped production of his 2 piece frames too. (Rumor to Fact, I really don't know, either way they sell for $250) So with all that said it's supply and demand and I'm seeing the prices go up on all of them.

$250, it will sell FAST $300 not so fast.... :wink:

That's the ones I was referring to. Saw them listed and was thinking..."hmmm, is this really that good of a deal?" Never was a big fan of brass grip frames but over the last couple years they've grown on me. Not big on the dragoon style either so the pairing of those aspects...not my thing but still... Have a brass birdshead and a brass Bisley awaiting fitting or a host and then another birdshead awaiting fitting so having more added to the project list is a bit silly. Still... I did grab a pair of these just in case. :lol:

Blkhwk73, pretty much my thinking as well - not a huge fan of brass, but I've got a couple of projects working where it might make sense. Not sure of quality, but I went ahead and bought one - may be a good deal, maybe not... We'll see.

Got it today, well arrived yesterday but I didn't get the mail until today. It's raw but really not bad at all. Some filing and a final polishing of course but a quickly mating to a cylinder frame had it appearing to be matched up very nicely, better than expected actually.
It's fate...no idea. It's at least 3rd in line two other projects maybe even 4th if the right host for a spare brass Bisley grip frame comes around. have to wait and see.

The one image on the ebay link shows a New Model style, however, they CAN be modified to work with the Old Model's trigger spring and plunger assembly.

I received mine today - that is FAST shipping from CA! It seems very smooth for brass casting and without any machining or polishing marks to speak of, even in screw holes. Do they do MIM in brass? It's very nice and dimensions appear correct.

#2 arrived today and it all ways seems just as good as the first one. I'll tuck 'em away and wait 'til an idea hits me as t what to sue them on. Getting these buggers is 1/2 the battle.

I picked up 2, they showed up today. Nice castings and fit is good, however the sides are a tad short, not bad and in fact as close as one would expect, even from Ruger. I just wished a little more material was there, as I like to fit as near to perfect as one can get.
His comment on clean up the casting and polish is just about spot on. You will want to be real careful in what is removed from the sides and ears.

Still a good buy for the $$ spent.

Expect to see some nice Brass Gun Projects here in the future....

Tim,
Flatgate's style adapter was designed to adapt the NM grip frame for the original OM trigger return spring and plunger. Below is my result of his excellent design. The dimensions are not critical.

About 7/8" overall length,
.740" from front surface to center of retaining pin hole (already drilled in NM grip frame for the new style trigger return spring to pivot on),
5/16" width to fit within the NM grip frame slot,
1/4" high to clear the bottom of the hammer with a slight hump at the back so the retaining pin hole doesn't come thru the top of the adapter,
and finally a hole in the front, the same size, angle and depth as the OM grip frame to house the trigger return plunger and spring.

The material can be brass, aluminum or mild steel.

Tim, look here for pictures. Thank Flatgate. I super glued mine in. Brass was hard to find so I used alum. Alan Harton makes them. They are beautiful.

Here is my Ebay Bassie, thanks to the heads up from BlkHawk73. It was about 3/32" proud in the front strap and the front grip screw hole needed to be deepened so the screw wouldn't stick out, and to have more than a couple threads holding it in. Here are a couple of quick shots with a little polishing done. I might be putting it on my 5.5" 44 Special but haven't made up my mind yet. Like the ad said a few hours of filing and sanding made it look like this so far. Added a pre-polish fit picture

It's where the "sizing operation" came in contact with the trigger spring and plunger assemblies "bore". It happens....

Here's one of my examples. The adaptor is retained in the NM grip frame by the NM trigger spring's pivot. You can see where the retainer pin's hole "opened up" the trigger spring and plunger assemblies bore a little bit.

No big deal. Some folks make these adaptors look really nice. Me? Nah, get 'er done and go shooting.
