I just bought a new SR9C last weekend after renting one, and will be taking it to the range on Saturday. I have disassembled it and it looks clean without any apparent grease. What would be the best way to ensure the best care for my new sidearm. I am new to owning and want to take the best possible care of this. Any suggestions and help will be greatly appreciated.

Keep it clean and lightly lubricated. I am sure there are multiple videos on YouTube on how to take down your gun and reassemble it. Your local gun store can point you in the right direction on what you need in terms of brushes, solvents, lubricants, etc.

And though the Ruger can handle it, I would recommend against shooting steel case ammo (the Russian stuff) if you can afford to do so. Brass and aluminum case stuff is much easier on the mechanism and tends to feed better (a bit more flexible).

Good luck and have fun.

Congrats on your 9C Ibearz. I'm glad yours is not too gunked up with grease, still I'd clean and relube it anyway. There a lot of good videos on just those 2 things on youtube that are helpful.

Around here there's another highly recommended step gained from experience which is to remove and clean the striker and striker assembly. Don't worry! its very easy just check out this video.

Earlier SR9/9c&40/40C's had a problem with metal shavings being inside this channel with others forming there in the first few 100 rounds of break in firing while the ejector gets broken in. I'd do it before firing, then again after a few 100 rounds are through it. Once broken in (at least in my case) the shavings go away. I only clean it every 700-800 rounds or so now.

Of course its possible you will not have an issue with this at all. Just a lil preventative maint. if you choose to do it.

Good luck to you.

Congratulations on your new SR9c! Like what has already been mentioned, I would remove the striker and clean the striker channel. After you clean your gun apply a small amount of oil to the slide area where there's metal to metal contact. Don't over do it. A little goes a long way. I hope you enjoy your SR9c as much as I do. It's a great pistol. :D
