Brand new LC9

Got to plug Bud's here. Ordered on Monday night - shot my first shot this afternoon (Thursday) with my new LC9. I've had a few prior posts about my new SR9C you might recall. First problem was a trigger reset problem. Ruger fixed it post haste. However, they chipped the trigger guard somehow. Shipped back immediately and expect to have it back again in about another week. I am so sold on Ruger that I went with the LC9 over the PF9 and the Beretta Storm Sub-Compact. I wanted a smaller (pocked) gun for summer carry and the LC9 won out. I wiped down the exterior gum and gook right at the dealer, walked downstairs to the range and put 50 rounds through it without so much as a hickup. That is unless you count the blood blister on my right pinkie when I pinched it between the mag plate and the grip. Not used to handling a gun this small. I have been reading about the loooong trigger pull on the LC9 and man, you guys were not exaggerating. I thought that first shot was never going to happen. Plus, the shots were so far off target I couldn't believe it. I was shooting good groups after about 15 rounds. I LOVE this gun. Has anyone encountered a problem with the breakdown button being really HARD to open? I really struggled with it and was a little afraid to be too rough with it. Had to put a lot of pressure with a wooden tool. Got a little oil on it and hoping it is not such a problem next time. Anyway, hail to Bud's Gun Shop and Ruger. I think I'm out of the gun market for a while anyway. I have my full size Beretta 92FS, my SR9C and now the LC9. What more could a guy want. :wink: :P :D

Yes my breakdown button was hard the first time. It will get better each time you use it.

Freeman glad you are happy with the soon returning SR9c, I Love my SR9c it is my favorite gun to shoot now. My LC9 I like but the trigger pull and the recoil are the only problems with the LC9. I believe I will get the Galloway trigger fix when it comes available and also his 20 pound spring for the LC9 to reduce the recoil. I know it is a carry gun and due to the lightness I am not real worried about the trigger pull or the recoil, when needed you won't even think of these thing's. But I would like to range practice with it to get good groups and use to the weapon I will be caring. The kick is very hard so it makes practice not very enjoyable like the Sr9c I love to shoot, but hopefully the new spring will help.

I had to use a tool a number of times when my gun was newer...
Now it's not hard to push down.

My breakdown button was real stiff when I first bought mine also. Now it's pretty easy to slide.

I also got an LC9 this week. Have close to 200 rounds through it so far without any problems. Shot mostly Federal FMJ and some Remington Golden Sabre. I cleaned it real good before firing the first shot. The trigger is looooong, but I'm getting better with it. 8)

I just picked on up this week. I bought it for an off-duty carry piece. Love the size of it, and chose it over the Kel Tec because, well, it's a Ruger. The trigger pull will take some practice, but it's the reset that will be the biggest adjustment.

And yes, my takedown button/window was a pain as well.

I went with a friend to the gun range the other day. We fired my SR9C, his XD9SC, and rented an LC9 for evaluation purposes. We probably put about 100-150 rds thru it. He got to where he liked it. I never did get used to the lonnnnngggggg trigger pull. I shot ok with it but, that's about it. He was thinking about getting something he could wear in a shoulder holster (maybe one of those shoulder holster t-shirts). He definitely wants something small, single stack, with a safety. The LC9 fits that bill.

The first time I tried to take down gun I struggled with the take down button as well. I saw a youtube video of an LC9 take down and the guy showed how if you pry the plastic button out at the top while pushing down it slides very easily. I tried it an no more struggle. FYI

I picked one up as well but cut my teeth on a long DAO gun so it was a natural. Once you get used to it - it will be hard to give up. My gun range also rents to try and I got to shoot a CW9, PM9, PF9, and a Nano. My brothers wife has an LCP I tried. The PM9 was nice but expensive and the LC9 fit all of my requirements the best.

There is a company in Asheville NC, Galloway Precision, that makes a hammer and trigger kit for the LC9. I put the kit in mine and reduced the trigger pull by over half and knocked about a pound off the pull. I was about to dump the gun for a Kahr until I did this mod. Now you can't pry it from my hands. You can get the info at www.gallowayprecision.com. Well worth the time and effort. You'll love the gun after the mod.

You know I wouldnt touch my LC9 and love the trigger but my SR22 may be another story down the road and it looks like they are coming out with parts for it. I shoot that gun the most.

Just took my LC9 to the range for the first time.
I've had a SW Sigma before, so the trigger pull was something I've gotten used to. The recoil is another story.

I had similar groups as @doc540.

Its a great gun, can't wait to put more rounds down range.

What's you think of the Nano? They kind of intrigue me. I'd have to really like it to drop my LC9 for it, but I'm just curious.

I have had the LC9 for several months and the slide over the takedown pin is still very stiff. I use the flat side of a small flat blade screwdriver which works well, but I am hoping this loosens up a bit over time.

As for the trigger pull, I am waiting to hear from Galloway Precision on the upgrade package, but I wish he would offer the service. If you check out YouTube, there are many videos, and most are of very good quality, however, the upgrade job seems moderately difficult. I really really want to shorten this trigger pull, so I will probably go ahead and do it if I can't find someone else to. If anyone knows of someone offering this service (other than a local gunsmith, which I suppose I could do), I would appreciate it if you let me know.

In fact, I think Ruger should offer this upgrade. I honestly don't know what they were thinking with the travel distance of this trigger. It's not like the gun does not have a safety.

The Nano is a good gun but known to prefer defense ammo. The low power stuff has more problems.
