Younger Son works in a lawn mower production plant-currently in paint, powder coat, and finish line. Some sort of production milepost is upcoming and the company has decided to build a limited run of 'Anniversary' models. Plant manager put Son in charge of hand picking best fit/finish parts for the run. Each and every part is to be examined and judged acceptable for the 'premium' logo.
For those who don't already know Son's history: he's legally blind. All QC through his department is 'hands on' inspected. Makes Dad proud. :love:

Country Clipper mowers. A division of Shivvers Manufacturing (grain bins and equipment).
He's worked on most of the mower model assembly lines and currently in the paint and powder coat quality control processes. Sort of a chip off the old block, he's not afraid to point out things that need improvement and doesn't accept shoddy results.
Besides this job, he also refurbs other brands of riding mowers for resale and has a 'vintage' parade tractor. When he gets in a jam on something, he calls me and I guide him through what he can't figure out by feel--pretty tricky when neither of us can see the problem.

I've worked on vehicles/motorcycles since the '70's. I've done rebuilds, restorations, modifications and bodywork/painting. It's amazing with bodywork what the fingers see and feel, that the eyes don't.

You should be VERY proud. No Suger coating. Blindness is a big hurdle. I'm proud of him as a man and you as a dad who helped build him to be the man he is today.

Thanks to all of you.
When he was 14-15, I gave him a set of wrenches and an old lawnmower and told him to take it apart. After he'd done that, I told him to put it back together. I had to help a little but it was most certainly a learning process. He developed a knack for mechanics and made it work.

This brings back memories. My dad had a friend who was blind. They played cribbage one a month. Braille cards if course. Remarkable to watch him.
