Bowl Games

I am not a huge fan of college football during the season but I like watching the occasional game and I especially like watching games around bowl time. There is a lot of good football played on the field and a chance to see teams I would not ordinarily see. But there is one thing that bothers me with the coverage in general. They don't show the half-time marching bands which I assume are still active in college. Watching those bands used to be almost as enjoyable as watching the game. Who cares about all the standings and history and this and that talk. Let's see the bands. :D

I expect I'll catch the Orange Parade this year if nothing else. :(

Do you miss the half-time shows/marching bands? :lol:

Don't know that I actually miss them, but I definitely prefer them to what is shown these days.

The marching bands don't play while they march too much any more. They march, then "park and bark", then change formation and park and bark.

Watch the Ohio State marching band if you want to seem marching while playing. My son is in his high school marching band and they definitely don't park and bark!

I marched in the Orange Bowl Parade in for 1959; Also got to see the Bowl game for free from the end zone seats.
That was the year that OK Un, beat Syracuse. Our band from Bartlesville OK Always played while we marched and HAD to have all the marches memorized because we didn't use music holders on out instruments.

I don't give a rat's tushy about "bowl games" a waste of time and a load of idiocy.

Those "waste of time" bowl games allow the schools to make big money that goes toward their athletic programs.

Some of the smaller schools, sometimes can't afford for the whole band to travel to bowl games.............even if they have enough members, to even be considered a "marching band". Most halftimes these days, consist of analysis and reports from other games. Most fans don't care about seeing the bands play.................I do like to see a really GOOD band, like the Ohio State, Alabama, USC bands..........but most of the others, I can do without.

Having both a band member and a member of the football team I can assure you that most of the talking heads don't do anything more than restate the obvious. Bands would be better.

I couldn't care less about the halftime marching band or any halftime show.

I watch the football game because I enjoy football when I can and I have far too few opportunities to exercise that option.
I generally walk away from the TV when the analysts come on at halftime...very rarely do they provide anything more than chatter. I wish they would spend more time diagramming plays so casual fans could learn about defensive schemes and blocking assignments. When we have people over to watch football, I am constantly explaining how things happen. I swear my wife knows more about football than 90% of the male football fans I know do.
