Bowen Sights?

Preferences on the Bowen sights ROUGH COUNTRY or TARGET model? Plan to install on a 4 5/8 .45 BH. Using for a farm/working gun. I've noticed several posts in favor of the Target. Just wondering why.

Does that mean the Rough Country is not as stout??? That's the one I was thinking of.

"The Ruger-pattern Rough Country sights utilize tough, opposing tension screws for both windage and elevation adjustments rather than the more delicate click adjustments found on target-style sights. These sights, are however, still capable of very precise adjustment."

however what folks are suggesting is that in order to keep the screws from loosening, they have to use loctite............ kind of makes the rear sight a bit difficult to adjust out in the field or at the range.

i've never heard of anybody having trouble with the target sight, whether it be on a 500 Linebaugh or a 22lr. I prefer the target sight.

Yep, what he said! I like my adjustable sights to be truly "adjustable".

I moved my RC sights to 32s and 22s and they still come loose. So, even on a sixgun with mild recoil they need loctite.

It is my take the the intent of the Rough country sight is to give you a sight that can be adjusted to your gun and load with the intent of having locktite applied when it is in the proper position. I believe the documentation in the package pretty much says to locktite the dang thing when it is in place. That said I prefer the target version myself.. When your gun is up to shooting x ring groups you will find that changing brass, bullets, primers, temperature, light intensity and direction, etc can more the group significantly. Something in my head makes me want to move the group to the center of the x ring if at all possible... The target sight lets me do that...

We use them for metallic silhouette shooting and while having a superb sight picture, the clicks are not the same every time you change distance.

For instance, if I set my sight for 100 yards and then go to 150 yards and set my sight again I will count the number of clicks. If I then go back to 100 yards and return the sight the same amount of clicks I adjusted earlier, I will NOT get the same point of impact! My friend has the same experience.

A target sight that cannot be reliable in the amount of clicks between set distances is not a "target" sight and definitely not worth the rough $250 I paid with shipping to Sweden.

I installed a Bowen RC on a GP-100 last year. The screws came loose after a couple hundred rounds, so I put blue loctite on them. So far, a good 500 rounds of heavy .357 mag loads have not moved it. I like the sight picture with the red insert front sight.

I have a Blackhawk 5.5. It has the Bowen target rear. The target rear was so high that a higher front sight was required. So, now I have a beeyootiful sight picture with a Clements gold bead front sight and an all black Bowen rear. I have no idea if every Blackhawk with a target Bowen requires a taller front sight. Just wanted you to know.

I like the Rough Country sights but do have both.The instructions that come with the Rough Country sights tell you to degrease and Loc Tite the holes and screws.There is no tougher sight made for Rugers.
