My sister, ninety-seven years old and as yet unmarried, was never domestic in her endeavors. When I visit her she always asks me who does my cooking. She is incredulous when I tell her I do my own cooking. Here some examples:

Saturday morning breakfast, smoked sausage, pancakes with maple syrup, orange juice and coffee:

Sunday morning breakfast, sausage and biscuit, orange juice and coffee:

Week night dinner, chicken breast, corn on the cob, fried okra, coffee:

I'm eating well.

Pretty impressive Mr. Wright! One thing is for sure, you have survival skills there in a very refined way!

Do you show her these photos?

How does one survive 90 plus years not knowing how to cook? Pop Tarts?? Maybe she did cook but now lives where her meals are provided. Heck, I was cooking for myself at least by 8 years old.

Glad you are eating well.

My mom made sure I could cook, clean, sew etc. She told me from an early age, if you get married it should be for love, not because you can’t take care of yourself.

My Dad taught me to make omlettes and fried rice. Anything else I like I track down a recipe and have at it. Lots of times people here have helped with a recipe or technique or spice.

I’m hands down the best cook I know. Trouble is I cook what I like the way I like it. Not everyone had the same taste.

Bob, You've got more get up and go than me. Breakfast is usually Coffee and four chocolate chip cookies. That one cop of coffee is it for me for the day.

Bob,
Glad you are learning how to survive.............. Like I have stated before cooking is no big deal with a recipe. A small GAS grill is your friend. Especially if you use in in the garage or someplace out of the weather. My outdoor kitchen is in my hangar so I can use it all year rain or shine.
A big Ole Pot of Fettuccine Bolognese that I fixed a couple of nights ago. Easy one pot dish that you could sack up portions and freeze.

"How does one survive 90 plus years not knowing how to cook?" After leaving our home she moved in with a retired nurse somewhat older than her and she did all the cooking. Then, as a guidance counselor and active in several organizations, she either ate out in restaurants or at dinners included in several functions. And at times, she did snack on grocery store concoctions. And breakfast for her was something in a box.

My wife says that my feeding instructions are on my arm. I learned to cook when I was 8 and have perfected my skills over the years. When I was Chief Engineer I did more cooking than anything. I had the best fed crew in the state and we always finished jobs under time and money.

Bob, we have a set of Chicago knives with one just like the one shown. A gift from my WW2 and Korea war veteran fater-in-law. They are good knives, but I don't run them through a washing machine.

I think they were a wedding present, and fifty years of use, and dishwater, did take their toll. But they still cut, and cut well.

We have a set of Chicago Cutlery knives like that in the original wooden stand on top of our refrigerator! We’ve had them since maybe 1978 or 1979! They get used throughout every day! They’ve been sharpened and “steeled” many, many times but never go through the dishwasher and are never left to soak in the dishwater in the sink! They still cut well and have served us well and aren’t near ready to be discarded! A really good investment! Two or three of the various sizes are my favorites!

Good for you Bob!

I've said all my life; "Everybody needs to know the basics of life skills. Cooking, cleaning & work."
As for my own cooking,, well, I was raised in a restaurant. I know how to cook a LOT. No going hungry around here.

From the look of both you and me our cooking works well! Anyone leaving my house hungry does it because they don't want to eat.

Wow! For some reason, I thought only the senior citizens in Eastern North Carolina enjoyed pork products at every meal.
Looks good! I have a smoker out back in the garage that is always finding new pork recipes.

As t pork, Memphis is known as "The Barbecue Capitol of the World!" I've done my best to establish that title.

Dan Brown, late owner of Leonard's in Memphis, once remarked to me, "To the rest of the world, a BBQ is a cook out. In Memphis, its a sandwich."

Well, a dis-agreement had the better half threaten to leave me.

I was in a strange mood. A moment of wit or suicide, but a mood. I spoke to here in a calm voice & asked her if she'd teach me how to make sausage gravy before she left.
Says hers is better but think she's jealous. Mine.
