"BLUED" stainless steel??

Have you considered black chrome? Matt or brushed?

I've heard of these bluing agents that can actually blacken stainless steel but have yet to actually see a gun so-finished.

I have a Taurus TCP in "black stainless" and I think Ruger offers it on some of there autos as well, but it's more of an anodizing. I've never heard of bluing a stainless gun, but I'd be curious to read more about it.

S&W made a few 686's in "Midnight Black" I think it was called, it was blackened stainless. They are very rare and I've only seen one in person at a gun show.
There's ways to do it, I just don't know the exact method used.

All the blackened stainless guns I've ever seen had a surface treatment. In other words, it would rub off exposing the stainless beneath. I do not thaink that stainless can truly be blued or stained dark.

A lot of the rifels have A stainless barrels that is steel plated then blued. Some times you will see the crown is shiney if it is crowned after it is blued.

What you are seeing is not plating, just steel in-the-white.
I assure you that CrMo barrels are CrMo through and through, and stainless barrels are stainless through and through. There are no less than 20 cuts on a barrel from solid roll blank to finished product, and therefore no way whatsoever to maintain any type of plating. Yes, there are metal plating operations, but they apply metals like Nickel and Copper that readily dissolve, steel (iron) does not dissolve into solution like that.
Any 'blacked' stainless is a polymer type coating applied to the surface like paint. Nickel can be colored to take on a very dark finish and then be ion bonded to metal and polished to make a shiny smooth dark finish.

Proprietary and (of course) claimed the best, but there's also Hard Hat, Robar and others that can be similar appearance and wear properties. In EB's literature they say theirs is formulated to look exactly like--but wear much better than--a regular matte blue'ing (on a standard steel gun). A friend's nearly identical Kobra Carry has been great.

Brownells has bluing solution that is supposed to work on stainless steel.
Yes, you can hard chrome or nickel plate stainless steel. Came real close to sending a stainless SBH to Accurate Plating & Weaponry for a matte hard chrome finish on Bob Cogan's recommendation.

Unter1-your slide looks somewhat like the Ruger rings I treated with Radio Shack etching solution. I had SS rings and was trying to match the Target Grey finish on a Mark II. The finish closely matched. But I am hoping to obtain a blue/black finish on my Blackhawk.

Stainless steel CAN BE BLUED same as carbon steel. It's just a factor of time and solution strength. See here for explanation from someone who specializes in doing it:
