Blued 3" Gp100

No, at this time Ruger doesn't catalog a 3" blue GP. Just the KGPF-331. They may have at one time but for me the SS is what I have and enjoy.

Blued 3" GPs seem a little difficult to come by in these parts. Value? Can't really say I've seen enough of them for sale to give a good guess. Maybe search completed auctions on GunBroker or other auction sites.

Think they came in both half and full lug barrels. Don't know of any blued with adjustable sites but think they made a few 3" stainless with adjustable sites. I have a 3" in each finish and really, really enjoy them. I don't own any other barrel length in a GP.

I searched completed auctions, and was unsuccessfull. Everything was listed as stainless. Blued 3" gp's do seem hard to come by. Would you value you blued revolver as more or less than your stainless? Taking into account that there are serveral ss models for sale.

To me, the blue is worth more just because I don't see them very often.

Here are a couple of thoughts on blued versions. I haven't confirmed it, but I suspect that all the models are now stainless. Special processes can actually blue stainless, and it is doubtful that casting both stainless and carbon parts is economical. One point in particular is important with this manufacturer's products: it is almost guaranteed that you will need to smooth up, re-contour, straighten, flatten and otherwise file and adjust parts that will result in scraping up the bluing. You will then need to have the gun re-blued.

If you could buy a blued Gp100 3" for between $500-575 would you do it?

No .... but .... if YOU are confortable with the price ~ that's all that matters. If you can afford it, gotta have it, can't live without it ..... buy it. Collect what YOU like and can afford ~ to heck with others opinions.

IF it's not worth $600 today I suspect it will be in the future. It's been said that you never pay too much for a gun .. you just buy them too early! Inflation will catch up with you.

However, for today, the double action Rugers don't seem to have a collectors market. No doubt that someone will pay it.

Hi,

I dunno. I have one, purchased new just shy of 10 yrs ago. Paid about $360 before taxes and fees, in CA, so in other areas it probably sold for around $10-$25 less. It's not for sale, but I'd think under $500 might still be possible. Haven't looked, to tell the truth.

I like the looks of the 3" Blued GP100s myself..
I came across an "As New In Box" 4" Fixed Sight Blued GP100 today for $380 OTD & just passed it up because? With the small grip & wood inserts.. Could have got it for less if I worked my majic..
The older ones with non MIM hammer/trigger are looking better to me all the time.
I've never had a blued DA SP/GP/SRH Ruger Revolver, Always seem to end up with the stainless because their so much more common..
The one Hittman show at the top is so classy, The only thing I'd change is the front sight or paint it white/orange..
Another 2 1/4" SP101 or 3" GP100 will be in my future when I come across the one I want @ a Super Price..

So, that means my blued 6" GP100, new 18 months ago (while SS were also being made) is worth more, because it needed to be reblued during manufacture? I paid less for it (and so was the list price less), because machining carbon steel costs less than SS. And there are zero areas which require ANY touch-ups. It must have been economical to make both versions, because they did, and mine cost less.

Re-blued during manufacturing? I didn't say that. These products do not receive the level of hand finishing work necessary to produce a finely tuned revolver. Some people are satisfied with the product as is. Otherwise, it is up to the owner or to a gunsmith to bring out the full potential. After that work is done, re-bluing will be necessary. That is why in this case a stainless gun makes perfect sense.

You did say there would need to be straightening, recontouring, flattening, etc. If those were done on the insides, reblueing is unnecessary. With the extremely dubious benefit of polishing the outside of the cylinder (advocated by one gunsmith), there are no external surfaces requiring "tune-up". My GP has no external sharp edges to correct. Its exterior is perfect. All the hand finishing of mating parts for smoother action, etc., are INSIDE the revolver. With the exception of a "slight hitch in its giddy-up" during DA shooting (lets me know just before going into SA), it is a finely tuned mechanism. And to remove that "hitch" I mentioned would require NO alteration of the external surfaces. Unless the smith was a butcher.
Sorry, but I get ticked when people say that Ruger is making all their handguns require work after purchase.

Obviously he is wrong and has assumed too much. Check out this link to see that Ruger still offers both versions, with blued at a $60 lower cost.:

I'm guessing folks are referencing the blued THREE inch which has been out of production for some time.
