Holy moly! I just looked out the window and not only is it blowing a gale it is SNOWING! A LOT. The winds were predicted but the snow is a surprise. It will never stick to anything, as the ground is too warm and is very wet, but snow IS falling.

They are calling for severe winds but so far, here in the head of the bay area, all I have observed on my anemometer is a 26 mph. The average has been 9 mph. South of me in the DC area they have had some 60+ winds. Snow has ceased and none stuck.

The wind is howling here. They cancelled schools which turns out to have been a good call. It’s actually warm outside even with the snow this morning. A lot of sticks to pick up later. No trees down so far. I had my fill of downed trees from a straight line wind storm that cut a path through my area last summer.

Wind? Be glad you don't live in Boulder County, CO.
In general, it's not considered a wind until it goes above 60mph.
When I lived in the city of Boulder (back in another life time), the local
news paper had a front page article that gave the highest gust at 103,
about five houses South of my house (Broadway and Table Mesa).

My daughter works on the 9th floor and she said she feels a little dizzy she thinks from motion sickness. Easily 50 to 60 mph gusts at times.

First time I am truly grateful we spent the $$ on a whole house generator. I am the only house in the entire block with lights, heat, and all other power. I can still make my coffee, that is the important thing.
I failed to mention that my wife is at our house on Cape Cod. . .sitting in the dark. We are now sole owners. Bought out Linda's sister yesterday, so we can now use it and remodel as we wish.

I only wish. The house was willed to her and her sister. Her sister could spend a dollar to buy a 25 cent item so her being half owner was killing us, In the long run it was simply cheaper to buy her out. Now she has $$ and we are back paying for a house.graygun said:

Lost power at about 6:30 pm. Generator fired up and is still going. Lost cable at about 1030 pm but that isn't important. Only house in neighborhood with heat and lights. I can hear no other generators operating.

Going to entertain MIL, daughters, SIL and pooch for a while. All have been without power all night. Still windy and a bit cold but at least above freezing. I had one tree uproot but no damage.

Here in Harford County 79,701 lost power. As of 10:20 this morning 29,564 are still out. I am one of them. Very little tree damage here but anything not tied down has probably blown to Annapolis by now.

Here in south Jersey, the power was out from 7:00pm to 4:00am. No generator here, but with headlamps, lanterns and flashlights, it was ok. Temps were in the low 30's, but our "Big Buddy" propane heater kept our small house @ a comfy 65 degrees. I bought it 8 years ago "just in case", but had not even broken the seal on the box. Started right up and ran like a champ! It's rated for indoor residential use, but I kept a window cracked open.
From the high winds and all the noise of limbs crashing down all night, I thought I'd find a disaster scene outside in the morning, but, praise God, no major damage.
My thoughts and prayers were for the linemen working through that night to restore power. God Bless them.

I have a son in law who’s a lineman on the eastern shore of MD that got called in last evening. They told him to expect at least a 12 hour shift. Not my idea of fun but the time and a half is nice.

36 hours and still no power. Thank God we had the generator installed. I can't imagine how many "fill up" trips I would have made with the old portable. At least the TV and internet are finally back up and running. I can now watch movies to pass the time. Wife is away and the cat isn't much of a conversationalist.

What kind of fuel does it use. I’m guessing natural gas, but a tank of diesel would last a pretty long time without constant fill ups.

I have two HUMONGOUS propane tanks. Never had to verify but supposedly they will keep the gen in operation 24/7 for a week. At the present rate of BG&E repair I just might get to test the theory. I know that they are doing the very best they can to get everyone up but my area has always been the last to get back up and running. I am almost getting used to the generator's noise but would also be overjoyed to NOT hear it.coach said:

Nearly 80,000 out. About 30,000 still not up and running. Where my wife is right now, near Hyannis Massachusetts, they had 90 mph gusts on Friday. She also lost power at the house there but it was back in a few hours.

Still operating with a generator at 10:50 PM 3/4/'18. Gen has been running non-stop since 6:47 Friday night. BG&E says power should be restored by 11:00 pm tonight. They have 9 minutes to get it done.

One thing that I really miss are the snow and gales we used to get at Kotzebue, AK. Many times during the winter I've seen the FAA anemometer going over 100kts and the snow so thick in the air you needed to follow the rope line from the station to the employee housing. I used to follow my power cable from the building I lived in to my Supercub tied down on the sea ice to make sure everything was still okay with the airplane. We always tied the up facing the wind with the control stick tied fully nose down. That way the tail would fly and take off some of the stress on the winds and tie down cables.
It seems funny now but back then it was exciting and fun to see and hear a big storm in full power knowing all your gear was secure. It wasn't as much fun when a control or RF cable broke and I had to go out in that weather to make repairs. Those were the days... being in my early twenties didn't hurt either.

We've finally gotten above "breeze" conditions. Rocky Flats (where the
nuclear plant was, South of Boulder) is registering 75mph winds, and the
TV announced another place at just over 80mph.
This used to happen in January.

Finally had power restored at 34 past midnight this morn. Generator ran non-stop for 54+ hours. Just a gentle breeze and sunny. March definitely came in like a 'lion' this year.

I just took a ride from Perryville south past H de G. Many trees down and a few traffic lights out still. You sure got your money’s worth out of the whole house generator.
