I fitted some new grips to my new F.T. blackhawk and the grip screw is too short, measures about .987 long, need one about 1.250, I have looked at different sights but haven't been able to locate one yet. Thanks.

I'm not certain, but, perhaps the screw from the "fatter" XR3-RED or Super Blackhawks will be a bit longer.

The aftermarket grip screw and escutcheons sets have longer screws but they are of a different T.P.I. than Rugers so you'll have to use their escutcheons.

JMHO,

flatgate

PS I've see them with a piece "spliced in", as well.

Aftermarket sets should be ok, I countersunk for the escutcheons but haven't glued them in yet, just need to find somebody who sells a set with a longer screw. Screw is a 5-40.

There is no need to glue grip screw ferrules in anyway. They are a press fit in a .250" hole.

The cheapo screw sets from Brownells with the brass ferrules have a stainless 5-40 screw that is 1.587" in length.

If you're looking for a black one, forget it.

This brings up a question I've had for a long time. Why does the after market only make stainless screws with brass ferrules?
They just do not look right on most darker grips when used on a blued gun. And the stainless / brass combo doesn't look right at all to me.

At least Ruger uses stainless screws with stainless colored ferrules.

I emailed them and they said they were going to send me one if they have one. See what happens, maybe see if Mccmaster-Carr has anything close and order a box. Grind to fit.

Don't waste your time. They don't have a 5-40 or a 6-40 screw long enough and neither does anyone else.

Buffalo brothers. Mccmasters has 5-40 by 1 1/4", round head and zinc plate, head dia. a little large but could be ground to fit. No cheese or fillister head in that size. Think I'll just order some from brownells, that way the head will be correct and I'll have a few extra for future projects. Just hate to pay $20 for one screw as they sell them in six packs.

Makes you appreciate the economy of mass production. Kinda like making one-off grips. Glad to see people putting pride into their work.
