Sorry for the newbie question. I picked up my first Blackhawk (see previous post). It was made in 1995 and has the KXR-3 grip frame. The grip panels, which appear to be rosewood, are a little less than 1/16" sort of the bottom of the frame. I compared them to the panels from my 1974 Single Six, also with the KXR-3 frame, and they are the same length. Is there that much variance in the frames?

Yes Ruger grip frames do vary a little but you have to understand that those stock panels are cookie cutter grips. Meaning they are made on a CNC machine and never see a grip frame until they are put on at the factory.
They are made so they will fit on every frame. They are not going to start hand fitting grips at the factory. The price you pay for a Ruger does not include hand fitted grips.
