As I am new to Blackhawks, I will hazard this question: Are the front sights on the Blackhawk "tall" for a reason? Have any of you guys/gals ever felt like there was just too much sight on the front of a Blackhawk?

Just the opposite. With heavy loads and heavy bullets taller front sights are required.
My working Blackhawks and Super Blackhawks all have the front sights raised using JB Weld

Try some Labmetal from Alvin Products.

And to the OP, all mine are wearing taller sights as well. The only ones that have the original sights are the ones I haven't shot yet.

The dimensions of the gun (top strap & frame) require a front sight that is that tall. If there was a top rib on the barrel like on the stainless Blackhawk Hunters or a fixed rear sight like on the Vaqueros the sight would be much lower. 8) 8)

Could you shrink that avatar please to no larger than 125x125 pixels (tiny).

Tall sights rule! They are a must if one shoots the "heavy for calibre" bullets that have become so popular.

PS PLEASE DOWNSIZE your AVATAR. The rules state 125 pixels tall and 125 pixels wide.

I had to have a taller front sight made for my Old Model BH .45 Colt. The factory sight was too short and it shot WAY to high even with standard factory ammo.

I tried to change the size of my avatar but could not find the tools in my cp. But I did find out how to do it in photobucket.
P.S. "Shop Ruger" sells those grip panels, although I believe they have started using plywood, from the looks of them.

I've always thought the front sights on all of Ruger's adjustable sight SAs did nothing for the looks. But, on a gun function has to overrule form. The fixed sight models are more attractive.
