i recently brought home my 45 blackhawk convertible 5.5 in barrel havent had a chance to shoot it yet but the front sight kinda bugs me as it appears to be put on the barrel at an angle and since the rear sight is jacked a little bit over i think they had to see it when they test fired it . anyway if it shoots fine should i let it go or send it back because imo it never should have left that way so whats yall opinions ?

Interesting. I just picked up a new Blackhawk in 45 Colt, 4 5/8" barrel last Friday. I thought my front sight looked like it was installed at an angle. Mine looks the the front (of the front sight) is to the right of the rear. I wonder if they had a bad batch of them or what. It's not a HUGE amount...but I know it's there and it bugs me.

It's not that the sight is on crooked, it's that the barrel isn't properly "indexed". It is, unfortunately, a somewhat common problem on Ruger revolvers. I have a 4" Redhawk that had to be sent back it was so bad, and even after getting it back from Ruger the sight is still visibly off center. (I bought it used from the original owner, who is a friend and I know the history.)

I bought a 45 colt 4 5/8 barrel that was so far off to one side the rear sight could not be moved far enough to compensate. I sent it back four weeks ago and have not received it back from ruger yet, but will post results when I do.

This seems to be a common complaint that had died down a little recently...I had to send a Single Six back in 2007, I even knew it when I bought it but it was a gift for my fiance so I did leave the store with it, This barrel was cocked almost to 1:00 it was so bad...and it was returned within 3 weeks, my dealer shipped it back for free. I have heard it goes faster when they receive them from a dealer but I cannot confirm this. They will make it right, just call them and let them know.

Mine is actually not that bad - most folks probably wouldn't have noticed...but I'm one of these people that sees something out of proportion and it irritates me. I feel better about it after spending some time at the range with it today. My pet load of 8.5 gr. Unique behind 255 gr. LSWC performed well in the gun, putting 3 of 5 shots into 1/2", with the remaining 2 opening the group up to 1 1/2".

We'll just dismiss those 2 as flyers. 8)

The last single action I sent back to Ruger for sight problems was there just over two months, and they didn't fix the problem..... Now someone else has the problem. I wonder when Ruger will realize just how many folks it is possible to upset with the same gun? I wonder too if they realize that their largest competition is with the used Rugers on the market, so every one that goes around the circle, is that many new ones they can't sell.

In January I bought a New Stainless Blackhawk in .45 Colt with the 4.62 inch barrel. I had to order it. It was the only one that the distributor had. When it arrived there was a small ding accross the serrations on the front ramp. I sent it to the factory and they replaced it.

I took it to the range and I had to adjust the rear sight almost all the way to the right to center the impact. It bothers me also. In addition, the gun shoots 3-4 inches high with the rear sight bottomed out.

I just sent it back to Ruger again. Hopefully they can tighten the barrel just a tad to center the rear sight. In addition it could use a higher front sight. It was at Ruger for two months initially for the sight replacement. I called to check on it and suddenly it showed up 4 days later. I wonder if they just threw a sight on it that was too short to get it out of the shop.

In any case, I know they will make it right. I have sent several guns back over the years and they fixed every one. This is why I still buy Ruger guns. I'm sure they realize how important it is to take care of a customer that has invested in their products. Especially in this hard economy.

My 2007 6.5" blued Single Six that I bought new has a crooked front sight. It bothers me, but I shoot it so often that I don't want to send it back right now. It's not so bothersome at short range, but I really notice when I shoot at 50 yards or play around with big targets at 100 yards.

My dad bought an identical revolver in the mid 70's that had the same problem, and he sent his back. Strange that I buy one well over 30 years later and the same problem comes up.

My pre warning NM .45 BH's front sight lists to starboard too. So much so that I have to use up all my windage adjustment to be sighted in @ 25 yds...Think Ruger will still fix it considering it's age?

I just got my stainless 4.62 inch .45 Colt back from Ruger. They took care of all my revolver's issues. This is why I buy a new Ruger every year. Thank you Ruger customer service.

I'm totally in disbelief over the crooked front sight dilemma!

Why would ANY firearms producer ship a gun with a crooked front sight?

Un-frigging believable!!!

I guess nowdays a buyer of a "new" Ruger needs to inspect prior to purchase, eh?

Ruger's crooked sights go back to the 70's anyway. Late 70's I wanted a SS 4" Security Six, preferable with a Heavy Barrel. Every Sec. Six I looked at for months had a front sight noticably canted to the right. One small shop a real jerk ran overheard me tell a friend that here's another with a crooked front site. The owner said "If that's the only thing you can find wrong with it I'll straighten the damn thing with a hammer!!"

I finally found it with the HB and correct front sight. Still have it!

I have a Colt SA with a really bad front sight. They always seem to lean to the right. I've been browsing for a S&W Model 35 for years. I've found a few at gun shows, but they just weren't in the condition I like. Finally there it was! Gorgeous and looked like it had hardly been fired. The price was about $100 too high, but I wasn't going to let that get in the way. Can I see that 35? Sure, he said. Imaging my disappointment when that beautiful pinned front sight was pointed near 1:00 :(

It sure seems worse with Ruger now, especially their SA's. I'd have a hard time ordering one without handling it 1st.
