bisley 22 education request

[what would you say]

I'm interested in adding a particular ruger to the collection. I have observed that the 22 Bisley is a collectible piece. Are there any collectors out there that can give me an education on that model of Ruger, such as different variances of the model, correct box markings, prices.. etc.
All advice appreciated.

Buy a copy of the Reference of Ruger Firearms from him, about the best $25.00 you will ever spend.

All the information and more is in there, plus he may throw in a years subscription to RENE as well.

Once you understand the catalogs/models and variations, you can go thru the cleassifieds here and search past sales on Gunbroker to determine what you wnat to spend and how new of a gun you are after, NIB, etc.

good luck with even getting him to answer an e-mail; much less sell you a book. I tried to join the organization and would buy a book too, but he will not answer e-mails sent.

The .22 Bisley "RB-22A" and "RB-22W" models are pretty rare with 100 or so of the "A" models and perhaps 200 of the "W" models shipped. The RB22 is also scarce. Most common are the RB-22AW.

Generally speaking:

RB22xx = 6.5" bbl
RB24xx = 4 5/8" bbl

The RB22 features fixed (Drift-adjustable) sight & a fluted cylinder - Scarce
The RB22A has a fully Adjustable sight and fluted cylinder - Rare
The RB22W has fixed (Drift-adjustable) sight With rollmarked cylinder - Rare
The RB22AW features a fully Adjustable sight With rollmarked cylinder - Most common

If you're scouring the net or local gun shops, grab serial numbers and call Ruger Records to verify how the piece was shipped. Once you know what the as-shipped model is, you can figure out if the rarity & condition meet your criteria. If you have specific questions you can always come here! :)

Chad Hiddleson will respond to your request eventually.. He's a VERY busy guy, so please grant him some courtesy and understanding! You'll see once you receive the RENE package that it will have been MORE than worth the wait!

Then there were 2 stainless Bisley's in .22

I sent an e-mail to the address provided by Contender, one of the trusted members here. After some time, I asked and got this for an answer when I asked if it is normal to take this long to hear back:

"Have patience. Yes, it takes Chad a bit of time occasionally. His real job keeps him busy. In fact, it took him out of the country recently, and he was "out of touch" for a few weeks.
If you don't hear from him soon, let me know & I'll see if I can get ahold of him for you. "

I think that was May 2.

Thanks for the responses and all the great info. exactly what I was looking for.... model #'s and what the variations are. and mostly importantly, the rarity of particular models. That drives the price as much as condition sometimes. I know from collecting other brands that the more common versions need to be LNIB with nothing missing to draw premium prices.. but those that they made two of.. one for Mr. Ruger and one for sale.. :) well that one you take what you get.

Thanks Pete. I am just discovering that it exists. I may do just that. I see they are available at a fair price. When I get that first copy I will probably be hooked. I have the Standard Catalog of S&W and it is invaluable. Knowledge is power you know..... LOL!!!

Ruger knowledge leads to BIG purchases! ;) It's fascinating stuff to read. Wish I'd discovered it years ago, but late is better than never they say!
