Only 14,398 to go!

Says they got her by tracking a "male scout snake". Is that like a pimp?

A few years back it seems the powers that be decided to bring a few of the Florida Pythons up to the Savanah River Plant in S.C., just below Aiken to see if they could survive the 'northern' Winters here.... later I heard they all died..... I suspect they probably slipped out and no one wants to admit it... keeping in mind that the waters in that area are warmer than normal... because of what they do at this plant. Thanks mostly to the now late Strom Thurmond .... we in S.C. get to make the countries plutonium.....

I wish them all the best in trying to get the population of these snakes under control. Tracking the males is a good idea,, as we all know that breeding needs to be curtailed to have any chance of succeeding in reducing their numbers.

Did I miss something?

If it is a non indigenous species, that is creating a problem for people AND
indigenous species, why not just kill ALL of them? Then it doesn't matter if
it is a "girl" or "boy" (or transgender?), it can not perpetuate the problem.

No matter how many boys get killed all the girls will get pregnant.

So they are catching boy snakes putting transmitters in them. Then tracking the boys to the girls.

They want them all dead, but are targeting females.

Years ago I read that you can’t eat this meat, because its loaded with mercury, but they don’t know where it is coming from.

Has anybody figured out yet that WE are a non indigenous species? And I even mean the folks that have been here for 12-20,000 years depending on which scientist you talk to.

Everybody wants nature to stay the same and can't quite grasp the simple fact that it will change no matter what we do by choice or not.

Maybe they can't track an atom to it's source, but they know generally it came from our various and sundry industrial operations. Same reason we have fish with high mercury content here.

They'll never get rid of the pythons. Check how many they catch in the "roundup"--it's a literal handful in comparison to the scope of the problem. It's about like saying: we're going to catch all the water moccasins in the Everglades. Uhhh....sure.

They are desimating the small animal population in the Everglades and even the deer there. They need to figure out some way to get them all.

I don’t know if they have a bounty on them or not. But that would probably help bring the population down. Hunting and making money will bring a lot of people into the swamps.
