Better sights for 22/45.

I have to "un-cross" my eyes after doing searches here for over an hour.
I have a early 22/45 I bought from a friends large firearms collection several months ago. Built in 1998 and just about unfired. I love the pistol with the exception of the sights. The front post is just too wide for me. I'd like a set of finer sights to install on it. Do any of you guys any recommendations and where to get them?

You have a few options. If you have adjustable sights on your gun think about this.
One, you can get a different type of front sight, such as Hi-Viz fiber optic. Or, you can easily unscrew the front blade, take it to a gunsmith & have him shave off .005 (or more, but go slowly & test) off each side of the current blade.
If it's a fixed sighted model, then you can get the gunsmith to mill off some of each side of the current blade.
Also, if it's a fixed sighted gun, I have a set of replacement adjustable sights with different colors & inserts to make a fixed gun an adjustable one. This set of sights is for sale, deep in the classifieds.
So, you do have a few options.

Hey, hows old Lake Lure? We haven't been up your way in years, we'll have to head up that way some fall and check out the colors. Love that area.
My 22/45 has a screwed on front and dove tailed rear. I know that Williams and others have better sights, for my eyes, available. I was hopping that one of you guys might have changed yours and could recommend one or the other. If I was still the gun smith at the old indoor rang/gun shop here in Mt. Pleasant I'd have the where with all to trim down the sides on the front and "fix" the blade on the rear. But the store is no more and 30+ years ago.
If I don't get a good recommendation I'll take a chance on one and let you guys know what I got and how they work with my 71 year old eyes.

Well, you should just plan on coming up to Lake Lure again, say in early October, when we have the East Coast Ruger Forum Gathering,, at my gun range. Just outside of LL city limits on hwy 9 south.
Since you have a removable one, I MAY have a spare in my parts box that may work.

I have Williams fire sights on my 22/45. Red front, green rear the rear sight is adjustable. I an very happy with the sights but I have one issue. The rear sight set screws easily loosen and the sight flops out of alignment. I sighted it in at 25 yards, used a dremmel to mark the correct alignment and then used a drip or red locktite on each screw. The sight hasn't moved since.
