Bent P-95 Slide

shot it with a 40 cal while in the gray plastic box. The slide has a dent in it just back from the muzzle end on the left side. Ruger will replace the slide for 140 dollars. But I think it can be repaired by a competent gunsmith. Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

What makes you think that just the slide is out of spec? The energy that made the dent got transferred elswhere.

I'd send it to the factory so they can get out the micometers and check everything. It's not quite the same as a dented car fender.

I think he said that he was using a different pistol and accidentally shot his P95 with it while it was still in the case. Did I get that right?

I agree with Iron Mike, let Ruger's techs look at it.

Sounds like he ran a .40 through it while in the case. I'm guessing accidentally.

If it was a round of .40, that P95 is going to have to be checked pretty closely. I can easily imagine a barrel replacement, but if you see something visibly wrong with the slide, that may need to be replaced also. Might just want to sell it for parts at that point. Insurance would "total" it. A new one is not terribly expensive and the purchase of a new one should deliver a non-questionable pistol at that point.

If I read this correctly, pictures would be greatly appreciated. :shock:

Everyone makes mistakes so no poking fun but I too would like to see pictures.

I also agree with the other posts. Having it checked by Ruger would be good. Or replacing with a good used unit and having this for parts.

Maybe frame it and put on the mantel

I think such a happening draws the need to see the outcome. We don't see this type of thing every day.

I do think I would give Ruger the chance at the listed price to make the P95 good if price is the most important thing, but I would hate to see one part lead to another and the outcome to be much more expensive with out creating full comfort with the P95.

I agree 100% and I am still not sure if you shot the P95 with a .40 caliber or if you fired a .40 caliber round through the P95.

I'm just glad the 95 stopped the bullet instead of some body part etc. You can replace the 95 easier than heal from a gun shot wound.

There was a story in the local news of a guy that shot at a raccoon in a live trap. The bullet ricocheted back hitting him in the leg and then being startled he dropped the gun and it went off shooting himself again almost in the same spot. Funny but not funny too.

If he shot it with a .40 from another firearm while the P95 was in the box and it hit the slide then a slide replacement may very well just fix the issue. I'd have Ruger fix that at that price. If the damage is only superficial than he may be able to live with it. Anything effecting the function though would make me want to spend the money to get it working correctly.

I guess a .40 wouldn't feed even though the mag would likely fit in the firearm, so the .40 must have come into the picture externally. My interest wouldn't be so peaked if it is just a hole in a plastic Ruger box.

I saw a fellow that shot his own truck with a 1911 ....my gosh that was funny ,he was using the truck hood it as a rest to show me just how accurate his new Kimber was ...when he creased the hood of his truck...and he was a cop !!! He still is called Barney..and that was 32 yrs ago...

I shot a telephone receiver once..with a Remington 700 in 7 Remington Mag and thats a long story..
i think of all us have shot weird things..at one time or another

and once I shot my buddys watch .with a 22 Mag.. We put it on the target to see who get the closest without hitting it....he won..

The craziest thing I've ever shot was my old broken cell phone. Thing just quit working one day a few months ago, made me mad so I shot it last weekend. Was kinda surprised by the "exit wound" from the 9mm, much bigger than I thought!

I've come very close to shooting a cell phone numerous times. But they were pressed against someones head driving a car and I was afraid someone would see me. LOL

I really should have removed the battery from the thing first, but didn't think about that until after I'd shot the thing. Lesson learned for the next time a phone makes me mad enough to shoot it.

I shot a old yale jr lock we hung on a tree years ago with a marlin 30-30 it stayed locked after 2 30-30s hit it. we also found a old 1960s car in the woods and shot it with 9mm and they went throught it at every angle we fired from except the motor.

Just for fun you should take that into your cell providers store and try to make an insurance claim. Tell them that you dropped it. :lol:
