Say. Thank you all for mentioning my name. Now that the expected trial of my father and mother in-laws murderer has apparently become a moot point due to his plea bargain, I am again more free to return to my leather crafting passions. RME I've forwarded you some information about the belts I craft, along with an information sheet that may help you choose a belt crafted to your liking even if it's by someone other than me.

I received my new belt from Don a couple of weeks ago and It's exactly what i've been looking for.The belt may seem a little pricey but the care, workmanship, quality of materials & concern for customer satisfaction that goes into it makes it kinda special and worth the price. I believe this fine looking solid belt will last longer than I will be around to wear it.

Worst problem is once you buy a couple you are set for life... at least that's what I see for the two I bought a few years ago.....
then again... I really need a slightly thinner and not as wide a belt for the knife buckle i bought from a member a few weeks ago...

A friend of mine in town has been doing quality leather work for years. I let him know of your request for experienced people doing leather work. It's a free market economy and some competition is good for all. If you're interested I'll PM you his email address.

RonT I agree with your thoughts. There are a great number of talented and skilled leather crafters working to support their hobby (like me). I've met some online on the leather craft forums, and never has anyone of greater abilities refused to offer honest guidance to others wanting to hone their abilities. It's good karma in my mind to share freely, and I have posted some videos with details about making helpful tools to deal with some of the more tedious aspects of crafting leather. Had some folks locally and online not taken a chance on what I offer I'd never have been able to get started either in supporting my hobby. My remaining days are limited from physical issues, but there are younger, enthusiastic crafters who deserve consideration. I encourage folks to read what the various crafters say about their techniques, ask questions and give the person an opportunity to meet one's needs. Costs vary with each crafter of course. But as long as one receives what they perceive to be good value for their money, a purchase is a good one.

Hi RonT. I thought about starting a website, and for a while used facebook until I became frustrated with their politics and intrusions. Now I've built up repeat customers and since returning to the craft after family concerns for a couple years, have the level of customers to care for that I can handle as a one-man hobby room. Some want to get much larger, but physically I'm where I must remain.
I've learned volumes in the several years I've worked leather, and I'm always happy to share the knowledge I've accumulated. If your friend crafts straps or belts, I made an inexpensive strap vise from plywood, bed frame railing, T-nuts, turned handles and threaded rod that has proven very helpful for edge sanding and finishing, one of the most time consuming facets of strap making by hand instead of machine. Inexpensive to make, it solves a big problem for those crafting by hand as I do. Perhaps it would be of interest to your friend and if you PM me his/her address I can link them the Youtube video. I freely share what I've learned.
Hand working anything is a craft worth passing on and nurturing in others. Please do encourage your friend to continue. And to share.
