Bearcat stainless?

I have two stainless Bearcats. I'm going to send one of my cylinders to Alan Harton and have it bored to .22 magnum. Then it will be the perfect "kit" gun for me.

There are a small group of New Bearcats, in stainless steel, without a firing pin groove in their .22 LR cylinders.

So, of course, the Bearcat fan HAS to have one.

Damn; now I have to look for one of them.

If anyone wants a 22 Mag Bearcat just order a chamber reamer from one of the gun parts suppliers. It only takes about an hour to do the conversion. The biggest problem is changing the 22Lr on the cylinder to 22 Mag. I have not tackled that yet.

That's not the only one...there's a few blue guns without the firing pin groove also...made about the same time as the stainless, but much rarer.

The SS Bearcat is at the top of my list, alas other great deals keep coming along to mess up my plans.

I had never noticed. For what purpose? Checking my blued Bearcat, I now know what you are referring to. Mine has it.
My little gem is a Clements with adjustable sights and trigger job.
It is the perfect kit gun.

You mentioned "newer" Bearcats. Perhaps this is some factory cost cutting.......like S&W with recessed cylinders...???
I've been staring at my cylinder and trying to determine purpose for the cartridge cylinder groove. Maybe it was some factory lathe tool hold.
Interesting...I never knew. I doubt if firing pin head would ever "drag" across cylinder, loaded or unloaded.

I didn't know that Bearcats came in stainless.

So, no time like the present to go to the Ruger website, and order a catalog. Then, sit down and thumb thru it. You might be surprised at other Ruger products you don't know about.

WAYNO.

I have a Bearcat stainless. Got the recall notice from Ruger and like a fool sent it back. That was a $$ expensive lesson. On the plus side it's a real fun shooter for the boy scout group i'm with.

No, I have 3 Rugers.....
MKII Bull Barrel, 5 1/2
LCP
David Clements Bearcat

Just trying to figure out te cartridge cylinder groove.

I went to buy a stainless Bearcat for my son this weekend. I found one, and the price was decent ($409), but I was taken back by the silver annodized (or painted?) extractor housing. It did not match the stainless frame, and to me, was really a distraction (almost looks 'plastic' next to the nice SS...). What finally killed the deal for me was the cylinder was binding on one of the cylinder rotations! The dealer said he was going to send it back to Ruger. So, I was bummed, really wanted this gun...

Guess I'll have to look for another one, or order one. Has anyone else seen new SS Bearcats with this type of extractor housing? Are there other new SS Bearcats with a matching SS EH? Are there aftermarket SS EHs that I could get that would match better? I'd really like a new one with a SS EH. If not, I may just go with a blued one...

Thanks for the feedback.

They're all aluminum. The blued models have a black coating, the stainless models have a silver coating. You can strip it and polish it but there are as of yet no replacements available.

OK, thanks for the info. Almost makes me want to get a blued one, but aside from the ERH, the SS ones look so nice... Decisions!

I am sad to report that I bought a SS Bearcat, I think when they just started selling that model, and it did not have the firing pin groove milled out. I sent it back to get fixed...then soon after there was an article in RENE about this. I felt sick for months.....what a dope I am!!

That's not entirely true. EWK made/makes SS erh's for the Bearcat. Not sure if they are still available though.

Craig C. wrote that back in August. They weren't available then. The EWK stainless housings are definitely available now. They make a stainless Bearcat completely right. I just recently bought three of them, for two Bearcats and a spare! Here's the link:
