BATF suppressor approval

I bought my first suppressor approximately 10 years ago. The approval process took about 18 months because the BATF had screwed up the process and had refunded my $200 tax stamp. Four years ago I purchased another 22 long rifle suppressor and it took about six months.
January 2 of this year I went to my local gun store and filled out the application for a suppressor for an AR. 15 minutes ago the store called and said I can come and pick up the suppressor. 22 days, that is unbelievable considering tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of people applied for suppessor approval on January 2. It’s like Christmas morning as I drive to the gun store to pick it up.

I never understood why, once you have been approved, you have to be re-approved

I expect it was so they could collect $200 each time, but now that is off the table so maybe they have streamlined the process for previous successful applicants. Congrat's! I will wait for the court cases to run the gauntlet of judges.

Not nearly as long a wait as many thought it would considering the run on them. Wonder if they'll get back to normal. I got approved about 8 months ago in 22 hours. The shop said it was a new record for them.

Buddy bought a Q Honey badger sbr with suppressor last week. His approval took less than 24 hours

First one, annd I to go to a place that could scan my prints as they are too worn to be inked. Even with the scanner I had to make 2-3 attempts for it to read them. Was nearly sure I wouldn't get approved. But I was wrong.

I am ordering this one in .30 cal on Tuesday for my Ruger American .308.

I guess I'll get one when they finally get around to processing them like a regular firearm.... I guess the good news is they are keeping a lot of folks employed up in DC or Virginia or Maryland.... looking up your name in a database to make sure you are not a danger to society like me.

Not just 're-approved', completely start over. Doesn't make any diff to ATF whether it's been a day, a month, or a year. Our info is 'on file' with Silencer Shop and nothing has changed in 10 years but the pics have to be updated every year. My burned hands/fingers don't fingerprint easily and it took almost an hour to get acceptable results at the Silencer shop kiosk the last time that was required.

I'm still waiting for them to be removed from the NFA altogether. I'm not risking all the rules and restrictions that come with Class2/3 life. One silly mistake and you're a felon

It's all about government work .... the whole system has to prove itself's worth. which means doing the same thing over and over again even though it makes no practical sense.

I hear ya. I keep the originals of the approval form in my safe. I keep a copy of each in my car glove box which is the only car I take to range or hunting. And a copy in my rifle cases and a photo of permits on my phone.
For a time I had an FFL, talk about giving up rights, the BATF can “tour” your residence anytime of the day or night to find what they’re looking for when you’re an FFL holder.
