Bought a couple of the lipsey's .44specials.
Heard that some replace the base pins right off and some just the extra strength latch springs.
I did buy a few wolffe springs to replace them.

They look like they are loc-tited together? What is the best way to remove the latch springs for replacement? Without buggering it up of course.

The factory base pins gave me no trouble but I just dressed mine up with #5 pins and Colt type extractor rods simply because I like the way they look. And some American Holly grips from Carl Schultz also helped their looks.

I would just leave the latch spring alone unless it goes flying like one on one of my 44mags did one day.
There is a specail tool for the latch springs you use on the side your slot blade screw drive don't fit, they are available from Brownells.
I have never had any problems with base pins in either of my 44 mags. waste of money to replace what don't need to be, like already said here.

I've had a few loosen up, but only ONE that flew off and got lost in 40 years of shooting.

A complete replacement is a cheap spare part to keep you going. Get the special tool from BROWNELLS....and the gate detent spring clamp PLUS the RUGER screwdriver set. DON'T lose your owners manual either.

Take it apart; de-grease the parts; apply blue loc-tite (so you can take it apart without destroying it) and re-assemble.
