So after struggling for a bit, I figured out the proper order for the base pin latch assembly. Recording here for future reference. From top to bottom in this picture, nut, spring, frame, screw. Then tighten all the way down, and press on the nut to insert or remove the base pin. This is an unconverted 1959 single six, but many models work this way. I've seen a few pictures online where this is done wrong.

Years ago I was given a pristine OM Super Blackhawk because the cyl pin kept popping out. I told the owner that I could fix it for him in 10 minutes, he was so exasperated that he just wanted to dump it. I put the latch back in correctly and, gave it to a mutual friend who never had one.

yes, a unique engineering puzzle when trying to assemble one from 'scratch'..:cool:

learned many years ago back in the 1960s when having to re-assemble single actions after all the parts come out of the bluing tanks......;)

There's this thing called an "Owner's Manual" that has an exploded parts drawing in the back section. Use that as a guide for the placement of parts.

Perhaps it was Flatgate, who used to use the “RTFM” acronym?

I’m giggling, because sometimes I need the reminder to do just that very thing! 🤭

Indeed, after looking again at the manual, there is a subtle diagram in the back that indicates the correct order. I did look through the manual but it wasn't obvious that this was the source for how to assemble the base pin latch. In retrospect I see it there. I was looking more for instructions in the manual, like how to remove the cylinder or latch, etc., rather than just a diagram.
