Barrel Lenght

With the Ruger Blackhawk and Vaquero what is your favorite barrel length?

4 5/8" followed real close by all the others.

I like the 5.5" the best. I do not care for the 4 5/8". I don't shoot it as well. Personally I think all Rugers should be availble in 6 1/2". I think it is perfect. But that is just me.

It's all a trade off.

I like my Smith MG with it's tappered four inch barrel. It's has great balance.

But if I want to more fully exploit a big bore's performance .... I prefer around 7.5"

I recently traded off a 9.5" .44 SRH for a .480 of the same presuasion with a 7.5"

The truth be told my 9.5" SRH only clocked 15 fps faster with the same load (heavy lead, heavy powder) than my RH with it's 7.5" tube.

Now, your mileage will likely vary but that's what my chrono told me.

All told if I could only have one barrel length for woods carry I would and could settle for around 6" .........

Recently my favorite is 3 3/4 I started out liking the 7 1/2. Then went to 4 5/8, then a couple of 5 1/2's. I'm not sure I have a favorite, all depends on the application.

i have always thought 5 1/2 looked the best, but i think my favorite is the 4 5/8.

Yep, me too. Longer the barrel the better I shoot. However the longer barrels doesn't pack as well (6 1/2", 7 1/2", 9 1/2", etc....) so I settled on the 5 1/2" as a good 'compromise'. Still, it is only my perception, not necessarily someone elses .

When Ohio first allowed handgun hunting the minimum barrel length was 5". So, my first revolvers were 5.5". Do not know if that law has changed.
My favorite is 4 5/8" for most everything I need a revolver for.
