Once upon a time in a land far, far away, I HAD a friend? In order for me to keep up with the big boys, I ordered a North West Hunter shoulder rig from Doc Barranti. Why they call him Doc is a misnomer of sorts. He couldn't operate a self serve drinking fountain! After waiting a life time (his advertisement for his rigs, "Once in a life time") I got a package in the mail. Here is what I found. He has been busy doing portraits of old men and hootch bottle covers, but when I would phone him he would say "I am working on it as we speak". This is what he sent me.

I contacted him and got the recording that said just send back your rig with an explaination of the details of what is wrong. I did that, and said that It neded to be leather. Much later I got another package. Here it is, just in time for the summer squirrel hunts of 2009. Look what he sent.

I got the automatic phone recording again. I returned it with a message that I needed to be a little better leather than that so it would match me bib overalls. After another wait this is what he sent me.

His phone message said to return it again, so I did, telling him that It needed fish scale tooling on it as per the invoice and also hand stitching instead of the leather shoe lace around the edge. Here is what he sent me this time.

I phoned again and the message said for English press 500, and that he was out of town with Tank. Return your mistake and he would try to fix it. I explained that I had never gotten the shoulder harness and it wasn't the holster that I had ordered. I think that his shipping department has lost a few lock washers. This is what he sent this time.

He did put a bright bow on it to try passify me. The phone message said that he IS OUT TO LUNCH just return what ever you have and see what you get next. I mentioned that the shoulder towel and duct tape with string wouldn't hold any of me good guns. Here is what he sent me again in time for the 2012 summer hunts.

A note said to just give the string or twine a chance before he replaced it. If it did break that he would replace the gun that was lost. The post man made me open it in front of him so he could just take it back with him and save me a trip. Here is what he sent again.

This is what I sent back to him. A copy of his last will & testiment. He will be reading his obituary from under the grass in the marble orchard.

Now it is 2013 and if I can find some barbed wire to go with the towel for a shoulder pad, I might get out to do some shooting. I plan on taking a couple of plastic grocery bags just in case the twine breakes.

NOW FOR THE TRUTH: Mike is getting ready to come out to Idaho for a bear hunt and is day dreaming about it most of the time. I enjoy teasing him just a little bit and wish him well on his up-comming hunt and a huckleberry shake. Thanks Mike (I think?) The rig looks like the rest of your work. REALLY GREAT

took him a few tries but that last one should hold up for a year or two...

That's a nice shuck Mr. Call!

An Idaho sixgun bear hunt! Go get 'em Doc!

Looks like all the practice he's getting trying to meet your expectations is paying off, at least y'all are keeping the Post Orifice busy.

Here's hoping he get's the biggest, purtiest bear in Idaho.

I see our old callshot is back in true form. Spinning a yarn that reeks of a smigden of truth! :D
Doc's work is truly some of the best ever.

I would say Docs quality control is just fine. It's his customer control that has me worried. :o ;D Doc does his best in matching the quality of his work to the customers specific needs. Things taken into account are the customers demeanor, style, class, wardrobe, wallet thickness, customers skin thickness, and lastly, who they associate with.

In this case, I believe Doc hit a home run! Doc matched his top of the line signature series shuck with his new "practical crusty curmudgeon harness." Made of a musty, moldy used bath towel, intricately folded for optimal absorption and padding, so as not to chaff the wearer. Tactical grey duct tap holds the fold tight and neat. The duct tap can be unwound for emergency use for band aids, radiator leak repair, or taping a friends mouth shut when things have gone too far........ ::)

The synthetic bailing twine rounds out the project. A secret slip knot is used for ease of adjustment, for a tactically sound fit. It too can be dismantled for survival situations and used for snaring badgers, rock chucks, or ground squirrels.

Yep, Steve, you hit the jackpot with this rig. Seems as though Doc had you in mind when he designed this one of a kind rig for a one of a kind kinda guy ! Enjoy, and wear with pride ! ;D ::) ;) :)

Jeff, thanks for letting me know about un-winding the duct-tape. When I un-wound it to adjust the string I found two hundred dollar bills hidden inside. Doc. must have thought he had to pay me to wear a holster that you designed the shoulder strap for.  :D 8) Got to keep the customer control up!
Steve
