So, I'd been pondering it for a while... And the local Sportsman's Warehouse had 2 stainless 357's - 1 Blackhawk, and 1 Vaquero. I'd been wanting a stainless BH for quite a while, and the Vaquero was a back shelf idea. But, the barrel-cylinder gap was much tighter on the Vaquero, lock-up was a little firmer, and I like how the cylinder aligns with the gate for loading and unloading. Also, the wood grips on the stainless BH were rather large. I already have a blued BH in 357, so I had to jump over to the Vaquero.

Now, just have to keep the wife from finding out. Not supposed to be buying guns, as we're trying to buy a house right now. But, I can't buy ammo, so this is the next best thing.

My 3 year old son has been begging me to go shooting. Hopefully I'll get out and try things tomorrow. If not, it will be next weekend or later. I really hate how work and life gets in the way of shootin.

Nice gun! I have been looking at one at LGS, used but appears new with box. and asking price is $510 which seems fair. Keep the little guy shootin and have fun with the new gun.

Money woes & the wife can cause a bit of disruption in a home.
You have to admire her devotion to having a home of your own. However,, as an old say goes,, "all work & no play,,,,,,,,,," can have an affect as well.
If a person spends wisely, and saves a portion of their income for the important things, spending a little on items of pleasure should not be excluded.
If a person is willing to do without stopping at a quick stop type of store for an overpriced item you can fix yourself, or buy at the grocery store for much less, (sodas, cigs, hamburger, snacks, etc.) & instead save that money for other items, then no harm, no foul. Or, if a person is willing to have a yard sale or sell stuff on an auction site etc to raise funds for other stuff,,, no harm, no foul.
I have spent decades buying guns with money that I didn't spend on cigs, beer, or other stuff I didn't NEED.
So, if your wife finds out about your latest nice looking Vaquero, tell her that you are using money from other areas & not from the new home savings.

When you get enough of them they lose track of which is which......... :)

Just as long as they can't get into the safe to do their own inventory!

I know guys who have a larger bar tab, then I spend on guns. I figure if I am frugal in other places, I can spend my money on guns, and ammo. Of course buying a house is certainly a worthwhile thing.

In the long run buying the house will lead to finacial stability, after the first ten years the money starts to loosen up, and it gets easier and easier to make the payment.

So if you plan on doing a lot of shooting when you retire, the house would be a good idea. In the mean time, enjoy the new shooting iron, and your boy. Ed

I have to agree with what Contender said. Every gun or knife I buy I remind my wife about areas in our lives where we DON'T spend excess money.

Also when I go to the grocery store , for example, I will get 5 or 10 cash back. Not every time of course , but those 5 and 10 dollar bills add up. Then volia ,gun money. Been doing it for years. She knows and loves me just the same.

good luck buying the house. And good luck shooting your new gun. It looks nice.

Buying a gun which includes "Now, just have to keep the wife from finding out. Not supposed to be buying guns, as we're trying to buy a house right now " sounds like a FAIL to me. No judgment here just an observation.

Yeah, didn't make it out to the range yesterday. Wife had a friend in crisis, and oldest boy got a boo-boo. He spent the whole day hobbling around like an old man. He's 3 years old, and can't handle pain very well. I've got a 1 year old as well. The 1 year old can beat the snot out of the older one in a short amount of time. It's pretty funny to watch. I wish I would have gotten a video of the older one hobbling around.

Hopefully I'll make it out next weekend.

I used to worry about this kind of thing myself; but I've reached the point where I no longer do. I don't go to bars, I don't smoke, I don't golf, and I don't chase other women. In fact, I don't do much of anything hobby-wise but enjoy guns. If the wife ever complains about the number of guns around, I just ask how many pairs of shoes she owns.

Nice gun. But where is the rear sight? ;)

As has been posted before, secrets kept breed secrets made. Insofar as marital advice, there are two requirements to keep a wife as I understand it.
Love only one - and keep no secrets.
Wife #1 collects loose gemstones; I collect revolvers & lever actions. We keep all expenditures on record, for multiple real-world reasons.
Trust cannot be remade once one has been "chumped".

And that's about all I have to say about that.

Does the store have a layaway plan. I have a gunstore that has a 90 day layaway. That has lead to me getting more guns than I can remember. You know, a hundred here, a hundred there.........

I think you made the right choice. The stainless Blackhawk has the larger frame, so that Vaquero is gonna be perfect IMO.

Sweet looking 357.

I'm too old fashioned for layaway and credit and such. I guess I'll be eating my words going into a home loan, but my basic living premise is, don't buy stuff you don't have money for. So this one came out of spending money. I'm finally into a job that pays decent, after a few really low paying ones, watching the bank account grow, and dreaming of living in a house thats paid off.

We're doing well enough. The forecast is for rain this weekend. I may have to figure out a water resistant target. And then, the following weekend is the anniversary, and the wife is getting a nice little purple SR22, so we'll have to run to the range again! Should be a great anniversary.
